Who would you put on the first team?

Mine:

Smart OSU
Brown OSU
McGruder KSU
Osby OU
Withey Kansas

1st Team

Smart (OSU)
Brown (OSU)
McLemore (KU)
Osby (OU)
Withey (KU)

2nd Team

Jackson (BU)
McGruder (KSU)
Clyburn (ISU)
Austin (BU)
Jefferson (BU)

I think the toughest call is picking two among Brown, McLemore and McGruder.

All three deserve first team, but there's only room for two.

Osu doesn't get 2 on the first team for a 3rd place finish

Mcgruder osby withy mclemore and smart (because of the hype) will be the first team brown deserves it more than smart IMHO

Mclemore
Jackson
Brown
McGruder
Osby

Withey = over rated
Smart = over hyped

This is pretty ridiculous. I have watched enough KU games to know how Witey makes impact on the defensive side of the court. If you're not convinced, rematch what he did to Osby in the game in Lawrence. And as much as I would love to say that Smart is overhyped, it is plainly obvious how much impact he ha had this year. With basically the same team they went from being out of the tourney to competing for the conference title. And w all know it is not the amazing coaching that has turned this team around, he is the goods.

If Osby doesn't get first team it will be a travesty. Currently, in conference games, he is:

3rd in scoring (1st among post players)
5th in rebounding
3rd in FG%
5th in FT% (1st among post players)

All in only 27.7 minutes per game

Smart
McLemore
McGruder
Osby
Withey

My picks. I would take Jackson before I take Brown. His time will come next season. Has really improved but he, more than anyone, has benefitted from Smarts play. A very nice player but a bit overrated compared to McLemore and McGruder.

Overrated? Brown is the most underrated player in the league. Nobody talks about him unless he made Sportcenter top 10. And I doubt Smart is the reason Brown is shooting 40+% from 3 this year.

I know people don't like Jackson, but he deserves to be first team

Jackson
Smart
Mclemore

This.

Smart gets all of the hype, but Brown has been our most consistentely good player over the entire season. He's the leading scorer on the team and is a great perimeter defender.

With basically the same team they went from being out of the tourney to competing for the conference title. And w all know it is not the amazing coaching that has turned this team around, he is the goods.

I'm not downplaying the impact of Smart at all, because he clearly impacts this team. But to say that this is "basically the same team" as last year ignores the improvement of all of our players from one year to the next, as well as other key additions this year.

Brown's improvement has been well documented, but there's also the improvement of Nash, Jurick, Cobbins and Williams, along with adding other new players who have been solid contributors like Murphy, Forte and even Kirby Gardner.

Even if you take Smart out of the equation, we're a much deeper, talented and experienced team than what was being rolled out there last year.

We might not be challenging for the league title without Smart, but we certainly wouldn't look anything like last year's team.

As an example, here's our starting five and bench contributers at the end of last season:

M. Cobbins (R-Fr.)
C. Gurerrero (Fr.)
B. Williams (R-Fr.)
K. Page (Sr.)
M. Brown (Soph.)

L. Nash (Fr.)
P. Jurick (Jr.)
M. Soucek (Fr.) (!)
C. Sager (Fr.) (!)

Look how inexperienced, undersized and un-athletic that group is compared with the current starting 5 and off-the-bench:

M. Smart (Fr.)
M. Brown (Jr.)
L. Nash (Soph.)
M. Cobbins (R-Soph.)
P. Jurick (Sr.)

P. Forte (Fr.)
B. Williams (R.-Soph.)
K. Murphy (Fr.)
K. Gardner (Jr.)

Even without Smart, it's not even close.

As for Ford, it will be interesting to see what happens going forward. This is the first year that he's benefiting from talent depth that he recruited. Specifically, his second full recruiting class that included Cobbins, Brown, Brian Williams and Olukemi.

All of the problems of the past two years can be traced to his first recruiting class, which was a complete bust. But since then, he's recruited well -- including both role players and star players -- and now we're seeing the benefits of that.

I actually think you can make a good argument that Brown deserves All Big XII over Smart. Smart is arguably more important to the team but you have to wonder if that is just because the media keeps saying it or if it is reality. Take away Brown and OSU is not nearly as good a basketball team. The guy can play basketball.

My first team guess:

Osby (should be getting much more attention for POY and he would be my pick)
Smart
Withey
McLemore
McGruder

As someone who has watched every single game... it's reality.

Of course we wouldn't be as good without Brown... he's our second-best player.

But Smart has a greater impact because of his position.

It's like having a great QB and a great WR.... sure, you're not as good without the great WR... but the QB is the higher impact position, just like the PG is the higher impact position.

This is an OU board, Not an OSU board. You don't have to explain things to us in such simplified terms. However, your point is well taken.
