another big snub

All they gotta do is prove the doubters wrong.

Could be like we were post Blake... All hype, but not any good.

I think a lot of the media really don't know all that much. James posted on the OUinsider yesterday that M'Baye would start at the 3 with Grooms, Pledger, Osby and Fitzgerald. People on this site that are going to practices are saying Cousins, Hornbeak, Pledger, M'Baye and Osby will start. I tend to trust you guys over James Hale when it comes to basketball.

The funny thing about both of those lineups are just about everybody is saying Cam is massively improved from last year (or so it appears), yet he is losing his starting spot.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. And not just to see who starts tonight, but to see who is starting in 2-3 weeks.

Yep, me too. Upperclassmen typically have the inside track at the beginning of the season. I won't be surprised if the five Hale named are in the starting lineup, nor will it come as a shock if Kruger makes a break from the norm and tips off the season with a freshmen or two in the starting lineup.

In the end it won't matter anyway. I think we'll see a number of changes in our top five before the season is over.

I have an opinion on that. I'm sure you will be interested in it. I also think the line up and rotation remains fluid and is not yet determined.

It is what it is today for what I think are a couple of reasons. First, two of the freshman guards are starting because it greatly increases team speed and improves peremiter defense. That allows Kruger to crank up the tempo on both ends of the court. I think that is what he wants and that concept is going to stay. However, Hornbeak is pretty good, virtually mistake free, and a guy that can help you win. Buddy is a playmaker that can impact the game. But,he looks to need a tad more seasoning. The gap between those two could narrow very quickly and a virtual split between them could be the normal. The starting point guard spot is Cousins to lose. I don't see anything happening other than him just getting better. However, Sam isn't going to fade away. He will get good minutes as a backup and do a good job.

Osby is filling it up. But, Pledger remains as the only other consistant scoring threat. Cam is much improved. But, he still bust defenseive assignments and then gets his head down about it. He has shown improvement over the last few days and if he can display that in competion he wll get plenty of time. And I think he will.

Cousins and Hornbeak both pass up open looks and defer to others. That may be by design to some degree and they are of course still freshmen. That situation will probably evolve over time. If and when Kruger can see them as contibuting offense to some degree and in some consistant amount the rotation and minutes could evolve for others.

M'Baye's ability to hit jumpers appears to be trending up. But, he isn't consistant yet. If that consistancy comes, everyone else's role will be modified some.

We agree, there are lots of moving parts. But, the overall concepts of what he will require the players on the floor to do are starting to become baked in.

If Seth Greenberg knew how to evaluate talent well he might still be coaching instead of writing. Oriakhi???? Ask 50 coaches if they would want M'Baye or Oriakhi knowing all that we know today and I bet 45-50 would choose M'Baye.

I like how he mentions Oriakhi's numbers during the championship year and fails to mention the big digression the next year:

6.7 points; 5 rebounds as a third year junior. Did Sawyer ghost write this article? Good role player? Yes. Top impact transfer? No. Third best transfer on Missouri's team? Yes.

Sounds reasonable to me, Gary. If Cousins has indeed won the right to start at the point, I will be one happy fan. Hornbeak, too, for that matter. If we have two freshmen who are capable of cracking the starting lineup and one who could get quality minutes, that has to be a good thing for this year's team. I've said for sometime that depth will be key to any success we have.

Me too as I am one of those that thought Grooms was pretty good in everything but three point shooting. Fortunately I picked Cousins as the freshman who makes the biggest impact!
