Another kruger collapse

And OU went 1-4 against the teams that didn't, all of which were terrible. What's the point with all this? Are you arguing that season wasn't an unmitigated disaster?

No doubt it was a disaster. From the outside it looked like Capel didn't have control of his team and it imploded from within. The biggest issue of all was the fact Gallon and TMG left and OU ended up getting in trouble for Coach O getting Gallon's mom a short term loan to pay off his tuition so his transcripts could be released. Ended up killing OU's season the next year and recruiting as well.

But, the Big 12 was the best conference in the nation that year and if OU hadn't made the tourney it wouldn't have been a shock, but they should have been at least .500 and IMO at least a bubble team.

Finally, I laugh at the Capel bashers and apologists on this board twisting each and every story/argument to support their agenda.

I'm saying you expected a lot out of a bunch of freshmen.
the league was pretty tough that year
Other teams like UConn and UNC with way better freshmen had horrible seasons as well and they both ended ahead of us the year before.

And I already told you that it wasn't too much to expect them to finish w/ a .500 record and improve over the course of the year. They couldn't even do that. That was the worst team OU put on the court since Go-Go Stevens was coach.

Oh, bs. When Jeff Capel was hired at OU, we had played postseason basketball something like 27 years in a row, the most in the country. He was here five seasons and made the postseason exactly twice in an era where all it takes is a .500 record.

Comparing that season to Uconn's is sort of beyond the pale. While OU was losing in non-conference to 11-21 San Diego and 19-16 Houston, and barely squeaking by Utah and Northern Colorado (not to mention being run out of the Ford Center by UTEP), Uconn lost only to Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan and they beat number one-ranked Texas. OU had 9 losses before ever playing a ranked team (then inexplicably beat Texas for its only really good win of the year).

Uconn beat 3 top-ten teams that year. Two of those were in the top five. And they still had five more wins and played postseason basketball, which is never too much to ask for from an OU coach. Or at least it wasn't before Jeff Capel was hired.

North Carolina won 20 games and lost in the NIT finals that year. While that may be "terrible" by UNC standards, it would have been much more than acceptable to me.

I agree with everything except the last part, but maybe because I've never paid attention before.

It offends my sensibility, though, when people tell me a .500 record is too much to ask for from any OU basketball team. As I said above, every year in my life before it hired Jeff Capel, OU had played postseason basketball.

I am not a big fan of the "post season streak" stat.....NIT appearances are essentially worthless.

And UNC had no business being in the NIT that year and they got in via name recognition.

I don't think it is too much to expect OU to be a NCAA tourney team every year since they went to 64 teams.

Don't forget, Willie Warren, our best player...was injured most of the season. We prolly would have gone above .500

Most expected nothing of the kids but did expect something of Capel. He was a horrible coach but you don't seem to get it. It was his fault he only had a few upper classmen and he didn't use them correctly.

TMG didn't just leave, he told Capel when Jeff recruited him he was only playing 1 year, which is fine when you know the kid is good enough to go pro after 1 year. TMG was not. The problem, however, Capel didn't recruit anyone else in the event TMG kept his word and then we get D-3 PG Carl Blair who wouldn't start for any other program in the conference.

Really, as abysmal as the 2010 season was, it pales in comparison to the 2011 turd of a team. I could have lived with 2010 had we had a season in 2011 like UNC or UConn, but we didn't. Instead, we were the worst team in the conference, but thank goodness for the 2 divisions so our record was better than ISU.

What is our best win outside of our 1 win against KU, ISU, and OSU?

What was our best win in 2007, 2010 and 2011? Are any of those as good as beating KU?

How many times did Capel beat KU? How many times did Capel beat Texas?

Again...your so high on Kruger...what is our best win outside of KU, ISU, and OSU?

Probably at Baylor, what's the point?

As for your previous post, I remember staying up the night before Thanksgiving to watch San Diego dominate a ranked team with a fully healthy, capable Willie Warren. And I remember Houston scoring 100 points the next night. It isn't like our losses were close that year. We might have had two more wins with a good Willie Warren that year, who was butthurt more than he was injured.

He has no point. He never does. All he knows is recruiting rankings and he still thinks Capel is a better coach than Kruger.

With these young guards we have the future is bright. Kruger has done one hell of a job this year and I predict next year will be better. We will miss Osby but I believe Spangler will fill in nicely. I like these kids Kruger is picking up. Rather have team players than these kids that leave after one year. Look at Gonzaga.
