Any JUCO or HS sleeper bigs out there for 2012?

With Newell gone, I wonder if Kruger and company will look to add a big that can bang down low for next season?

Sam or Will - any sleepers that come to mind?

Henson did report to the season ticket holders about a week ago that we would look to sign one more for 2012-so there's that. Maybe anyone that Kruger was looking at while he was at UNLV?

I'd love to get a shot blocker that can come in off the bench and be an energy guy ala Johnny Gilbert.

Grooms JC teammate Keith Dewitt appears to be unhappy at Southern Miss. Might
be looking for a new home.

He's a 6-10, 220, PF. Looks very athletic.

Good call. Would definitely take a flyer on a mid-semester transfer like him and see what happens.

I think it would be smarter to wait to see what comes available in the spring after the coaching changes start. Take the best available even if its a transfer as OU doesn't have a glaring need for 2012-13, but needs to start prepping for graduating for the roster overhual in 2013-14.

Wasn't there a very talented kid in Vegas that said he was interested in going to OU with Kruger?

DeWitt would be a good get, providing he doesn't come with too much baggage (namely staying eligible academically). As I recall, OU recruited him when he was a Chippola JUCO. Scout.com shows we offered him back then, along with a host of high-profile schools.

Found this on a Vol's board, poster seems to know what he's talking about. Says the rumor going around is that DeWitt asked for his release after the assistant who recruited him left for Wichita State. Also seems to think that if DeWitt is granted his release, the logical assumption is that he would follow the assistant, Greg Heiar, to WSU.

Here's the post for whatever it's worth:

DeWitt is already 23 years old, and his checkered past is hard to piece together. He was supposed to graduate from Andrews HS in High Point, NC in '06 but he apparently failed to do so. He ended up at Charis Prep, where he played two seasons though there was talk that he had enrolled or was about to enroll at Ocean Academy in NJ at one point.

DeWitt then went to Chipola after failing to qualify at Missouri, and he played two years there. He played in more than nine games this past season but Chipola's reported stats are very spotty and incomplete. He broke his elbow in a game this March.

DeWitt, who had committed to both West Virginia and Missouri while in high school, was easily the best prospect on the floor and that was obvious almost immediately. The face-up four has a superb skill set for a player of his height, and if he bulks up he could be a stud in the C-USA.

He was recruited to Southern Miss by assistant coach Greg Heiar, who'd been the very successful head coach at Chipola for five years. DeWitt apparently wants out of his LOI due to Heiar's departure for Wichita State. IMO, that's where DeWitt will likely end up.

That's a thought. The downside on him is that he is supposedly pretty soft for a big...

Since he won't be needed all that much next year, a redshirt season in OU's conditioning program and getting coached up by our assistants could change that. Looks like a decent prospect that a few pounds of muscle and developing a mean streak could turn into a really good player in time.

Any idea why he didn't sign with anyone in the early period? Is he that soft?

If we can find someone that would be an upgrade over Blair or Arent I say go for it! We need higher quality depth at point and center imo.

I actually think OU has really good depth at pg. Not many teams have a guy with two years starting experience.

I guess it depends what LK thinks the new guys (M'Baye, Hornbeak, Hield, and Henry) will deliver next year. If he thinks those guards need another year before they are really ready, I'd be all for bringing in a JUCO scorer. Assuming M'Baye and Henry will get most of their minutes at the 4/5 spots, we're still a little light on talent/experience at the guard spots. Be nice to use Blair ONLY as the backup pg, and at the 2 spot.

in henry comes in at semester (still very possible) we don't have room for a transfer

You may be thinking about, Grandy Glaze, a high-profile PF who signed with UNLV and then asked for his release after Kruger took the job at OU.

We talked about the possibility that he might follow LK to OU. I'm not sure where Glaze ended up? Maybe someone more familiar with his recruitment can shed some light on what happened to the kid?

He's at Saint Louis University, playing for Rick Majerus...
