not really sure I like where a lot on this board is headed.

We've had all of ONE exhibition game with a ton of new faces and instead of getting excited about a new group to grow and prosper I see little more than naysayers and doubters.

to wit:

"not enough talent to win 10 games"
"no light at the end of the tunnel"
"coach fired at the end of the season"

Is this REALLY the approach you guys are going to take on the season already? If so then I beg of you to count me and many others out. Please put an asterisk on your posts/threads so I can use some kind of ignore list or something.

I am not at all interested in listening (reading) tripe from a bunch of people negative about this season right out of the gate. #%@$ no nothing good is going to happen if that's the approach you're going to take...and you're going to bring others down with you.

In fact, that's always the case. Misery loves company and people who go negative ALWAYS look to drag others down with them.

Not me.

Not this year.

I support this program. I look forward to the team getting better, making the most of what it has this year, and building on that next year and in the future. Please take your Debbie Downer Demeanors and label them properly so I can sh!tcan them as needed and actually enjoy the season as it plays out.

as a college fan you support the program at games by cheering them to victory or defeat, as a message board poster you discuss the program, players, coaching, defense etc. You don't put your hand in the sand and say all is good, rah rah rah. You give your honest opinion whatever it may be and as long as its an educated opinion backed up by a decent amount of logic, it should be allowed to be talked about and discussed.

I think its a good thing people are upset that means people care about the program and just want to get more W's.

When putting ones "hand in the sand" means looking for the lowest common denominator and bad spots from the first exhibition game on then I disagree.

You can logically discuss the positives and negatives without declaring gloom and doom from minute one...and if declaring such is gonna be your intent from the beginning then I and quite a few others want no part. Just go ahead and state your approach as such now so I can beat the Christmas rush now and put you on ignore. I want to actually enjoy this season instead of reading how horrid it's going to be every other word.

Regardless of what happens. I'll be there for every game

Protest inspires change. We need big changes in the basketball program. Thus, let fans protest what they like.

I'm just wondering how many different ways some of you can come up with to say "we suck" before you get bored. In ABD's case it appears to be an infinite number.

Last year was our worst basketball season since Billy Tubbs' first year, and Billy was building to something pretty big, as witnessed by our 22 wins next season. We have had 25 years of basketball excellence, and Jeff Capel seems to be in a quagmire. I don't post much negative stuff about this team, and I won't, but to expect anything less than frustration from OU fans is ludicrous.

The hate and negativity spewed here by certain posters has no relation to fan frustration. I believe it was SoonerBounce who, in another thread, described one of our most consistently negative posters as "transparent," meaning most of us can see right through him and the message he's bringing in almost every post.

I applaud the OP (coolm) for expressing his thoughts on this topic – and I completely agree with everything he wrote.

I don't have the prescience to read other poster's minds; perhaps some of them do have an anti-OU agenda. I don't know. To say that this "has no relation to fan frustration" is terribly misleading. I think it has everything to do with fans who are not happy with the results Jeff has been posting lately; that being said, I hope the team is succesful this year. You will never read me putting this team down, unless they aren't giving the best effort possible.
Certain players on last year's team quit and embarrassed themselves as well as the team. I hope and pray this is NOT the case this season.

Since you are referring directly to me, I will respond to this.

Many of the long-time posters on here know that I am traditionally not negative.. Now, it is true that I don't like where the program is right now. Outside of the one Blake Griffin year its been painful to watch. Recruiting has been a struggle, attendance is down (or at least thats what bigtime says, he is there, not me), fans are frustrated, the coaches picked OU last place, etc. Its not just me...

With all that being said, I think I give honest opinions based on what I see.. I am not the type of person that can see something bad and post about how it will be good until proven otherwise. If I think something is gonna be bad, I will say its bad. Apparently people have a problem with that.

I just want to know when the last time you enjoyed being an Oklahoma fan?
Based on the amount on your opinion you post it seems that the performance of OU basketball is really afffecting you. If it is hobby then why continue to punish yourself by following OU basketball so closely if it this painful to watch?

You can also logically conclude early in a season that a team just isn't that good. As long as a person is basing their opinion on evidence, I don't see how it's a problem to voice concern that this year's OU team just isn't very good.

Throughout Quin's tenure at Mizzou, he always had detractors (many who hated him from day one because of how Norm was pushed out, and many others who hated him because he was hired over Bill Self; still others just hated ****ty basketball). Often those people came with no evidence, just pure negativity. As someone who did see potential in Quin and did back him until his final season (I supported Quin until he opened the 2005-06 season with a loss to Sam Houston State), I hated the constant negativity, so I understand where you're coming from. But if they're actually supporting their negativity with logical justifications (even if you disagree with it), they have every right to voice that opinion that you do yours.

I play a lot of golf... when I play like crap, I still enjoy doing it and will continue to play and come back. Sometimes you can like something, follow something, root for something, etc even when things arent going well. I would enjoy watching OU hoops if they went 0-16 in the league and never won a game.

I am still a fan, and it doesn't affect me much in the way that you are describing... I follow and watch OU basketball because I am a fan, and will continue to watch whether they suck or not. When they suck, I will post accordingly. When they are good, I have always posted accordingly to that as well.

Fair enough, fair enough.
It just seems weird that you can post negatively about the team and not let if affect your outlook on your hobby. It seems to me that if you're thinking negative thoughts on something it is harder to still enjoy the hobby. If you have found the way to still be negative and enjoy the hobby then more power to you.

We were a 6 seed the other Blake Griffin year. The first year had a barren roster, and last year was a debacle. This year will likely be sub par. I would say unless we go 6-22 this year(which would be Capels last), next year Capel must make the NCAA or he will be fired. That being said I will continue to buy tickets and trust the Administration to make the right decisions.

I think what annoys me about your posts is it seems like every time I come on here you have a started a new thread which obviously has a certain point but for some reason you feel the need to "hide" what you are actually trying to say. For example, one of your many "compare OU's starting 5 to X team's starting 5" threads. The message you are obviously trying to send is that OU's starting 5 is worse than the 10th place team in the league. So why not save yourself the time and effort and just post "this team sucks and Capel should be fired". Then we can sticky it to the top and you won't have to continue to come up with creative ways to say with suck without actually saying it.

it's like my old, disabled hands have severed from my body and gone elsewhere to compose my thoughts.
