Baylor

I don't think I'll be sleepy tonight. If I am I will be waking up with a smile on my face. :D

Sherri seemed happy after the game. I don't know that I've seen that many fist pumps from her.

OU clinched second place in the top rpi conference. Unless we fall apart, I think we may have just earned a #3 seed.

Indeed, it certainly didn't hurt. Kentucky showed that Baylor had a vulnerability.

I thought our defense was the key. I don't understand it all but Whitney was explaining they'd just put these defenses in. We did a very good job on not giving up easy baskets and making them work. Even when their athletes kicked in we were ready. Plus we didn't turn the ball over(my pet peeve for like ever).

I thought this is as well as I've seen us play in a long time.

We don't need to lose to KU, OSU, or first round of Big 12 if we want to keep a 4 seed or higher. But, right now all I have to say is Boomer!

Oklahoma beats No. 3 Baylor 68-64

Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kaylon Williams and Sharane Campbell-Olds each scored 15 points, and Oklahoma defeated No. 3 Baylor 68-64 on Wednesday night to end the Lady Bears' win streak at 25 games.

Peyton Little added 13 points and Gioya Carter had 12 for the Sooners (18-9, 12-4 Big 12), who clinched the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament. The Sooners outscored the Lady Bears 18-10 from the free-throw line and improved to 8-0 at home in league play.

Nina Davis had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Alexis Prince added 12 points for Baylor (26-2, 15-1), which only other loss this season came to Kentucky on Nov. 17. The Lady Bears were tied for the second longest winning streak in the country with Princeton, one behind UConn.

Niya Johnson, the nation's leader in assists, had just five. She had 17 in the first meeting, an 89-66 win for Baylor on Feb. 11 in Waco, Texas.

The Lady Bears had already clinched the conference regular-season title.

The score was tied at 64 in the final minute when Williams was fouled. She made the second of two free throws to put Oklahoma up by a point with 30.5 seconds to play.

Baylor's Imani Wright missed an off-balance jumper, and Oklahoma's Gioya Carter rebounded, was fouled and made two free throws with 14.6 seconds left.

Wright missed a three, Dekeiya Cohen missed a putback, and Oklahoma's Campbell-Olds rebounded. She made one of two free throws to put the game out of reach.

Oklahoma rolled out to a 12-2 lead in the first five minutes. Baylor coach Kim Mulkey took all five players, including Davis, out of the game with 14:15 left in the first half, and Davis didn't come back for six minutes. Baylor rallied without her and trimmed its deficit to 16-15 before Oklahoma answered.

Oklahoma rallied and pushed its lead back up to 35-27 by halftime. Baylor trailed at the break for just the fourth time all season. The Sooners held Davis to six points on 2-for-6 shooting in the first half.

Davis got going early in the second half with two buckets that helped cut Oklahoma's lead to 35-33. A free throw by Davis tied the game at 45, and Baylor led by six before Oklahoma rallied in the final minutes.

TIP-INS

Baylor: Prince was issued a technical foul in the first half for throwing the ball hard toward an official. ... 6-foot-4 center Sune Agbuke fouled out with 6:24 remaining. She had seven blocks. ... Baylor blocked 10 shots as a team.

Oklahoma: The Sooners made all 10 free throws they shot in the first half. ... Oklahoma committed just three turnovers in the first 20 minutes. ... Oklahoma made just 8 of 14 free throws in the second half.

UP NEXT

Baylor: At Iowa State on Saturday.

Oklahoma: Hosts Kansas on Saturday.

8 out of 14 FTs in the second half made a lot of Sooner fans nervous, including me!

But the final score is what matters!

I think the team has been on the verge of this type of performance for some time. It came together tonight. I wonder if this team didn't turn a corner that has been eluding recent teams for about four or five years. This team can win, and now they know it. They expect it.

In the game in Waco we gave up 50 points in the paint. Tonight we only gave up 22. Huge difference!

Fantastic win. Loved some of the hi-lo sets they ran toward the end.

Great job, Sooners!

KU in Norman this Saturday, then Okie Light in Stillwater. Actually need to approach the KU game with an attitude. Can't take it for granted, as the Jayhawks, while losers in7 of their last 8 games, have kept the final score in single digits difference. The last time that KU lost by double digits was January 14th.
So while they have lost 8 of their last 12 games (since January 14th) they have been competive in all of them, and lost in Waco to Baylor by only 8. And beat Iowa State in Ames (61-56). They are a team that has lost a lot of close games.

We definitely do not want to show up flat Saturday!

I'm a little less worried about the girls not being up for OSU in Stillwater...

Agreed! They have the talent and drive but the confidence and attitude have been lacking the last few years for whatever reason. Games like this are what help to build and instill that confidence and attitude in this team. Another big step for this program to return to the Top 10 in the future!

Sooner, those hi-lo sets are what won us the game! This is why I LOVE Ortiz. She knows how to pass the basketball. Reminds me so much of #21.

I think the team may be fired up for the rest of the conference season.

We probably cost Baylor a #1 seed tonight.

I sure am glad that you're a Sooner fan, although from your last post, one might wonder. Savor the moment, man! Quit trying to tell us how much better Baylor is than our girls are, OK? Even if it is true/

Once again, read my posts, I stated several times how happy
I am we won. But reality is something else. I'm not one to waller in the happiness, I move on to the next thing. Waller if you want to though,
I don't care

:ez-laugh::D:ez-laugh::D

I'd have loved to have seen Mulkey's face in the closing seconds. I REALLY do not like her, but will give her this: She is a fierce competitor - hates losing!

Great win tonight! All starters and top reserves played really well, played hard, and had confidence in the team. Coaching both in game, and in preparation was excellent. I just got home, and am still fired up.

Hahahahahaha Vinny is bashing Sherri Coale on a night like tonight. Absolutely predictable and quite funny. At least Norm is intelligent enough not to back him up on a night we beat Baylor.

Please, show me where I "bashed" Sherri. I'm waiting

You do love to wallow in criticism when you have your "I know more about coaching than anyone else" hat on, though.
