Baylor

I hope...

I think we will try some trick plays. We will drive it down to our basket, stand around and watch and then, as time runs down, one of our girls will throw the ball directly at the head of a Baylor player of her choice hoping to knock them senseless and out of the game.

We will do that until we knock all but two Baylor players out of the game.

At that point I think we will have our best shot of winning the game — at about 25 percent.

Ok. I have not seen us actually try that one, but one a couple of our kids try every game is about as interesting. They stand totally under the rim, watching to get a rebound, obviously hoping the missed shot bounces off the rim, and as it bounces out from the basket a strong wind gust blows it back under the rim so they can grab it. Could someone tell them to get out from under the rim when rebounding?

And while you have their attention point out that a missed 3 point attempt will not bounce straight down, but will likely bounce out - at least - several feet from the basket.

sad how far this program has fallen

Beyond sad! There are many programs, men's and women's (UCLA Men come to mind) that have had really great programs that have eventually lost their luster, so to speak. But I can't think of one that grew the way OU's WBB did and drop to the lows that it has in relatively a short period of time. But here's the kicker...all under the same leadership, with poor recruiting (recruiting was bad when the team had All Americans...many other great players wanted to come to OU but were not recruited or were recruited by assistants but not offered), no development other than a few guards, no camps for youth, nepotism at it's best (let alone a former player is married to her son/coach who was a scout team player...go figure), AND the head coach makes over $1M BASE salary. Where has this happened before? NO WHERE! And no disrespect to the current players. They are playing how I would expect them to play;actually better considering all circumstances. Just because they were good/great at the high school level does not mean they will transition into good/great college players. Who was their competition in high school? Did they spend summers competing against the very best across the country for 4-6 years before arriving at OU? No. So they are doing their very best. Kudos to them. I'm sure the assistants are some really nice people, but who did they develop and recruit before arriving at OU? Think about all of that for a minute. Now take a few Excedrin. AND SC has the audacity to offer COACHING CLINICS! Really? Who pays for that? IMHO...the money she makes, the awards she's received...were based on the success of some really good players that worked hard and wanted to win in spite of...so many coaching/staff/developmental shortcomings. Sad...just a shame.

I won't be watching mulkey take joy in running LNC like she owns it today. And you better believe she's going to have no mercy and rightfully so. This is NCAA Division I Women's Basketball. Not the women's 18 and over YMCA league. I will instead watch one of my favorite games ever...Baylor vs OU in the Big XII Championship game from 2006, way back when the OU players took it personal and won in spite of...poor recruiting, poor development and poor coaching. In stead of singing the national anthem before I watch it, I'll sing an old gospel song, "Bring Back The Days of Yea and Nea"! Google those lyrics and you'll understand my pain when it comes to having to play baylor. Lord help OU today! I believe in miracles!

PS...notice how much SC is up walking the sidelines and interacting during this game. It's really funny when I think about it because it reminds me of that lip sync show on tv with LL Cool J. The singer (SC) is putting on a great show but has NO CLUE how to really sing (coach)! She even does the "mulkey squat"! :ez-roll:

We all know this will be tough to win, let's hope that OU plays well and gives me a fight.
I only hope that KM doesn't steal away Colton from the OU staff

Some good moments in the first half. Too much size: Brown, Cox,, Egbo. I thought we had a shot at Cox and Egbo. Be nice to have one of them. Baylor can dominate the interior against about anyone. May get beat if their guards don't develop.

Nice efforts by Madi, Lampkin, Taylor. An offensive putback by Taylor?

Why is pellington not in the game? What is SCS problem with her? When she does play I know she turns the ball over more than she probably should but she also scores, unlike players that staying more than her (simpson,).. at this rate we are going to lose her to transfer and then we will be in the same position next year as we are in this year, rebuilding and saying our youth is to blame

Pellington is a turnover machine. I think that's partially why she is sitting. I don't agree with it completely but she turned it over 3 or 4 times when she was in. We have to get a transfer center in the off-season or next season will be the same.

EJ is so bad. she's got the size that we need but her hand eye coordination is horrible. It's like the coaches have not helped her get remotely better since she came in. With athleticism you also need work ethic and you need a good support team to help you get better and I don't know that she has had that here. We are not going to have another good center, in my opinion, unless we land and exceptionally naturally gifted recruit or we get in a different coach....

let's talk real talk now, how many games can we actually win the remainder of the season?
I THINK WE WIN TWO MORE GAMES THE REST OF THE SEASON, TOPS...sad, I know, but from what I've seen realistic. We have not improved at all since the first game.

Remember the days when LNC would be packed on a Sunday afternoon when the women were playing the #2 team in the nation? Hard to believe that Sherri has let this program fall to this level. How long before she is on the Hot Seat?

She's already on the hot seat. No way she goes another year like this next season without getting fired or forcibly retired.

There's no way that she's not getting at least a phone call at this point in the season from the AD just to check in on her. Only winning five games at this point in the season is pretty embarrassing. Youth can only blink be blamed on so much, I'm telling you.

Do you think there is any chance of promoting Colton to HC should that happen? I certainly hope not but in this day and age you never know.

Castiglione was at the game today.

Even Colton wouldn’t take the job from his mom — and Joe C. Would never offer it.

Absolutely correct. I just said the same thing on the other board.

Every team has a bad year every once in a while but it seems like we are on a downhill spiral and are getting worse every year. Its bad the distance we have fallen from where we were not that many years ago. It seems that Sherri has totally lost her spark and the fire she used to have. Something has to be done to right the ship and if that means a whole new coaching staff let's go for it.

If two of the three new recruits are effective in their first year, it will easily be enough to put this team over 500. Someone must emerge as the go-to player. Llanusa and Shaina have taken turns at times. But, it always seems to be just one or two with the other contributors having an off day. Today, Ana could do nothing right,, shoot, dribble, pass, or defend. Madi and Taylor did OK. Nydia did some good things. Some bad things.

It will help if Liz or Chloe can be effective on the inside. I haven't heard of a good inside transfer.

Baylor loses Brown. That is huge. They have excellent talent everywhere. But, Brown is the one that makes it difficult to deal with.

Iowa State loses Burkhall, Carlton, and Middleton as well as Nezerall. That bites. Kansas loses every starter. Kansas State loses Goth and Jones with no help on the horizon. Texas loses White who has been a thorn to us. TCU loses both Moore and Okonkwo. Tech only loses Sanders. OSU only loses their rebounder. West Virginia loses three starters, including the only player over 6-1 on the team. Most teams take a hit. We won't, unless someone transfers.

Rutgers was 6-24 in 2017. Stringer is still there. North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell has been there for about twenty-five years. The last three years have been losing seasons (below 500). It happens.

I don't think Joe C is going to be this generation's Donnie Duncan. He isn't going to fire a Hall of Fame Coach because of her first non-appearance in the NCAA in 19 years. You don't let message board complainers guide you to stupid decisions. She isn't at a loss for motivation, and she would probably retire if she thought she couldn't compete. She doesn't like to lose.

The bright side is OU will move a little up in the RPI but SoonerSpock did not get his moral victory by a point. I say we give it to him.

I'm sure Sherri & Colton will go home tonight and discuss ways to get better over a bowl of popcorn and a Coke.
