Anyone else hear that?

BBJ has been crying all morning about how Sam Bradford won't do interviews with the local media, and specifically him because he covered Sam in High School. BBJ said he called Sam's agent said he said he got a lot of requests from local media and BBJ responded "Well, they're not me. I covered Sam when he was in high school yada, yada, yada." or something like that.

So out of the blue comes a caller toward the end of the show who says, "I know you guys are busy trying to get Sam on your show" then goes on about how UCO (They're 20-2 and ranked 8th) might be the best team in the state.

Turns out the caller is Terry Evans and he talks about how UCO is in line to host an NCAA regional. He went on to say that he's going to start calling into BBJs show and keep him updated on how they're doing, insinuating he needed to do that since BBJ hasn't covered his team despite his claim he gives love to the locals and has been demanding it back from Bradford all morning.

Seemed to me like a total burn on BBJ who's been claiming all day he always keeps up to date with the local sports teams, and how the local stars (like Bradford) need to stay in good standing with their local media because "they'll need us someday". I thought it was a pretty good setup and execution by Evans. Of course, BBJ was totally oblivious to the intent of Evans' call.

Hopefully Evans gets a D-1 gig some day and when BBJ finally calls him for an interview, Evans will tell him to stick it. Evans seems like he has more class than that though.

I would not complain if Terry Evans were hired to be the next OU basketball coach. He has had success at every level as a player and head coach, and every time nobody thought he could do it.

Nobody thought he deserved a scholarship to OU. I remember my dad saying he only got a ship because of his dad. Well, that was wrong. Terry had a great career at OU.

Nobody thought he would make a good high school coach, they were wrong.

Nobody thought he would make a good college coach, and he's proved them wrong.

Isn't his UCO team mainly Oklahoma kids?

I have more respect for Terry Evans now. I would love it if he's our next coach.

More gold from the blowhard jackwagon BBJ. Newsflash gastric boy: Sam Bradford doesn't owe you anything and has much more important things to do than to give you an interview.

I think all but 1.

I will say one thing...I don't know if his team is the best team in the state, but I do know that they have the best player in the state. If Dauntae Williams was on our roster...we would have several more wins. He leads that team in points, rebs, assists, and steals. That kid is the real deal.

Did Capel talk to Evans about becoming an assistant last year? Was our video coordinator a better assistant candidate than Evans?

I heard the BBJ/Evans exchange. It was really awkward. And BBJ managed to get in several "You don't have to tell me Terry, I've always followed you and your UCO team". BS.

I'd love to know that myself. Evans would seem to be a natural to get back in the program; however, there are a million reasons why guys get picked, maybe Jeff just liked the potential of the guys he had. IF Jeff ever moves on or is let go, I'd be the first to request that Terry Evans get an opportunity at the job.

BBJ should've gone with his more standard, I don't know you tell me Terry. Would've been much more fitting.

Heh...you would have to get in line behind me.

I had forgotten about Evans until I started checking into his UCO tenure. Dude can coach.

OUCH! Can't say I disagree, though.

Every coach is entitled to hire the staff he wants to work with. Most pick assistants they know well personally, which is not always what is best for the program. I'm not sure if Evans is ready for a head coaching job at a major D-1 program. But he would have been perfect for an assistant's spot.

I talked to Terry before Capel got hired and he was confident that he could turn the OU program back into a national power. Does anyone know if Terry runs the same up tempo offense as Tubbs did?

On a side note, agree with some of the posters above that Bradford owes the local media nothing. He can do interviews when he wants.

They are pretty high scoring, so I think it's an up-tempo style but probably not exactly like Tubbs used to play.

would any of you hire an OU great as your asst. coach who, once things started going downhill again, fans would be calling for to replace you as head coach? not saying terry shouldn't or wouldn't be a good assistant or head coach, but i can see why capel wouldn't subject himself to that. jmo.

Please dont gas up Evans Coaching Ability he hasnt won anything at UCO. His team always chokes in the Lonestar Conference Tournament as well as the National Tournament.

Evans is 163-76 in eight years at UCO -- including a 74-19 mark the last three seasons -- and has directed the Bronchos to six national tournament appearances, five LSC North Division titles and one overall league crown.

He’s had five 20-win seasons in the past six years -- including a school-record 28-win campaign in 2007-08 -- and has coached 13 All-LSC North Division players while earning LSC North Division Coach of the Year honors four times.

I don't know what your expectations are, but UCO is not known as a basketball juggernaut. Sure, they had some good seasons here and there before Evans, but he's taken them to the next level.

Considering he's an ex-OU player and from OKC, and I think OU is his dream job, so he wouldn't always be on the lookout for the next train out of Norman. If and when the spot becomes available, I think they should give him a chance. He can't do any worse than Capel thus far.

Their recruiting budget for basketball is this = $0.00
They want him to bring in this many out of state players = 0.00

Take that into consideration when you talk about what he has done at that program.

Terry had a OU basketball job of some sort under Sampson. But he left after 1 year. Anyone know why?
