I don't see myself in any camp for Capel. My only fear is if we get rid of him, how long to make a turnaround. If you look at the lanscape right now, 2012 is the next influx of talent the sooners can get. No coach is going to make this bunch of guys better and if you get a new coach this year, the roster most likely gets worse.
Barry Tramel is a dufus! I don't care for his opinion on anything.
Ur right, on most opinions he is a dufus...but there isnt much evidence out there that he isnt right on this one...
If it were anyone other that Tramel I could admit the possibility of them being right. But not him, I just can't do it. To me it just sounds like any of the mutitude of other statements that he makes. His mouth runs so much something is bound to be right at some point.
Come on guys. If Capel is wrong then so were all the people on the McDonalds AA selection committee and I assume the people on that committee know basketball.
We just had 3 McDonald's AAs who did not mesh and all jumped ship. It happens.
We had to run out and sign a bunch of guys, some of which are not Big XII caliber. The good thing is we now have 6-8 guys who are Big Xii Caliber players who are not NBA early entry candidates. The base is built. We get better from here.
The only question in my mind is does Joe C pull the plug before the end of the season, so maybe we can name another coach in March and maybe they can bring in a player or 2.
I think if we lose Capel this season we run the risk of losing Goff, Richie Peters, and any recruits Capel is in on. Not to mention the possibility of players transferring. If the future looked bleak I could maybe see it, but the future looks brighter IMO.
That's a good point...but again, it's not the talent issue i have...it is how they are being coached...
You would know better than us since you played at a high level. it does seem to me that they looked like a crisp well coached team vs the weaker early teams. Then when the competition was raised to the BCS level they got exposed which tells me it's more talent and experience than coaching.
I have to admit I haven't watched much of it though. When one of my teams gets down double digits I stop watching. I left the 2004 Orange Bowl title game in the 2nd quarter. Had seen enough.
Basically it is just the little stuff (but has major impact) that bothers me...
Defense:
very weak on the ball pressure
guys can catch whenever they want against us
very weak help defense (guys are gonna get beat)
Offense:
No continuity in the lineup (inconsistent rotation of players)
I really dont have much beef with the offense, i really like our scheme for the most part...i just dont think we have the players that can execute it...which begs the question why arent we running something they can excel in (i will be the first to say i have no clue what that would be)...maybe that's why he is just sticking to what he knows as a coach...
It is really the defense that bothers me most...even with a lack of talent we should be executing at a high level on this end, because as a coach, Capel has to know that this is his best chance for them to make an impact in the game and give them a chance...i just dont see it happening...i feel like i am watching a high school team defend on most occasions...
And to the point of the first 3 games...i was very unimpressed even though they won two of them by big margins...i felt Texas Southern pretty much got any shot they wanted but couldnt score, i saw pretty much the same thing in the other two games...
