Berry Tramel on Jeff Capel

I have to admit I haven't watched much of it though. When one of my teams gets down double digits I stop watching. I left the 2004 Orange Bowl title game in the 2nd quarter. Had seen enough.

That's a very odd brand of fandom. Especially since you've posting repeatedly about how the program's on the way back up, that the base is rebuilt. I mean, I have no problem with anyone holding a positive outlook, but how could you possibly know we're on the way back if you've watched so little of our games? Because this squad has tended to get down by double digits in the very early going in game after game.

Come on guys. If Capel is wrong then so were all the people on the McDonalds AA selection committee and I assume the people on that committee know basketball.

We just had 3 McDonald's AAs who did not mesh and all jumped ship. It happens.

We had to run out and sign a bunch of guys, some of which are not Big XII caliber. The good thing is we now have 6-8 guys who are Big Xii Caliber players who are not NBA early entry candidates. The base is built. We get better from here.

You also talked about how great last seasons team was going to be, etc even after they looked bad early. You also thought Cameron Clark was a stud and dared everyone to find a player who could match his numbers, lol.

Capel is 8-20 over his last 28 games and under .500 without one of the best power forwards in the world on his team. You just can't survive that kinda thing in major college basketball.

With skyvue here...

I think if we lose Capel this season we run the risk of losing Goff, Richie Peters, and any recruits Capel is in on. Not to mention the possibility of players transferring. If the future looked bleak I could maybe see it, but the future looks brighter IMO.

I'm sorry but the current roster minus Cade Davis plus Goff and Peters isn't an upper half Big 12 team.

I agree. Unless Clark and Taylor come along.

Ya, and we always just have too many "if's"... we had about a million of those this year and we will have more next year.

"If Nick Thompson can do this and that and this, we will be good"
"If Carl Blair can come in and be a steady point guard, we will be good"
"If Pledger and Fitz really come on strong, we will be good" (this was a big one for me)
"If CJ Washington can clean up the glass, we will be better"
"If they play with heart, we will be better"
"If Capel learned from the meltdown last year, we will be better. he is a young coach, learning on the job, etc"

We heard stuff like that all offseason this year... Next year we will be doing the exact same thing with Neal, Osby, Goff, Newell, Clark, etc. We thought Newell and Clark were sure things but now we see they are not. Well, Newell looks pretty sure at this point.

I didnt say it would happen, i just said what it would take to have a top 6-7 Big 12 team.

Barry Tramel is an idiot. I realize he's on newsok.com and he's a public figure of sorts, but he knows as much as me which is saying something. Basically this entire thread is like me writing that this year's hoops team will do bad and someone on this board making a new thread entitled "Dem Coltz's thoughts on the Sooners". Besides, what Barry said has been repeated on this board by dozens of people, so I don't get why its a relevant or noteworthy idea for a new thread. The source doesn't change the message we've all read before.
