Big 12 talk (other teams games )

Uterus was up 18-4 on Baylor then got run. OU down 14-3 then ran ISU in the 2nd half. College bball always interesting.

And a little shout out to ORU for an undefeated conference schedule and a 27-4 overall.

Paul Mills and comes by way of Baylor.

lest we forget, ORU was in the sweet 16 two years ago and almost beat the Hogs...close game to the Elite 8.

they are carrying the torch for hoops lately in the State of Oklahoma.

big wry smile...sort of.

More lest. Obanor transferred to T-Tech 2 seasons ago and took some of their possible success with him as well.

OU also beat that ORU team in Norman by 14, and it took a garbage-time three-pointer by Abmas to make it that close.

ORU typically has no more than 2-3 guys that could get meaningful playing time at OU or OSU. Abmas is a really nice player I would love to put an NIL package together for, but anybody that thinks ORU is playing the best basketball in the state is a bedwetter. Even during their Sweet 16 run, they lost to both OU and OSU. I think ORU is 1-5 against OK teams during Abmas' career, and that's because I'm including the 1-1 split against TU.

But at the same time, Phipps rarely sees the court since the transfer.

Yep, plays a lot less than last year. Their schedule is tougher this year as well, just proves the same point why Bamissile, Groves', and Sherfield's numbers all take a hit.

But he sees the court more than pre-transfer. He barely had a roster spot at OU but went on to be a 20 minute guy at ORU initially.

17 titles in 19 years in a conference as good as the Big 12. It’s absolutely remarkable. And the most underrated thing about KU is how much tougher they are than other teams. When you watch the last couple minutes of close games, they get seemingly every loose ball, make clutch free throws, and absolutely lock teams down defensively.

And every call.

On the play that made it 63-60, McCullar barrelled in and knocked the Tech player out of bounds, thereby securing the ball and getting an easy lay-in. A clear foul, but one that will never be called in the final two minutes at PAFH.

It's like the KU player in Buddy's final game in Lawrence, when the official told him to back off, that he couldn't stand that close on an inbounds play, the player ignored the official, made contact, got the steal and sealed the game. "I knew he wouldn't call it," the KU player said, speaking the quiet part out loud.

Sky, I’d urge you to watch the play again. Harmon was the player he took the ball from and Harmon didn’t for a second argue or do anything to suggest that he thought he was fouled. Players complain about just about any debatable call, especially with the game on the line. Harmon clearly knew that’s not a foul that will be called in a loose ball, scramble situation.

Tech missed the front end of a one-and-one, and on the next possession, Harmon missed the first of two; both of those possessions came in the last 80 seconds. Saturday, WVA had the ball down two with 20 seconds left and didn’t even get a shot off because they panicked and KU played great defense. Meanwhile, at the other end, KU knocks down free throws, tracks down loose balls, and, against us this year, got multiple offensive rebounds on the biggest possession of the game.

I absolutely agree they tend to get favorable whistles late in games in AFH. But so does Duke. So does Carolina. I’m sure there are people who will say the same about Alabama football. None of those teams manage to win their league every year. Trust me, no one hates KU more than I do, for all sorts of reasons I won’t get into here. But they also win a hell of a lot of games because they are tougher and better coached than their opponents.

Ya… I think I might hate ku more…lol. I’m from Wichita now in KC.

BUT, with that said… here’s my “foul calling theory” in Lawrence.

While the actual count of fouls MIGHT be close, it’s the timing or type of foul called.

Opponents get common fouls, ku gets shooting fouls… so the count might be 6-7 fouls each, ku is at the line way before the 1/1 so they technically get more opportunities.

Perfect example was our game. Uzan is basically hugged by Grady but makes an acrobatic lay up… no foul. Next play Wilson drives, Goodwin guards… doesn’t touch bump anything, Wilson falls down misses layup gets the foul called.

Ku shot 2/15 fg’s during the stretch we took the lead… but made 14/16 ft’s…or we would have been up 15-20 pts not 10.

I also look at def being played.. shots taken.. we both were m/m and both driving and playing an inside game. No way fouls were that different

Agreed. KU has always been given a cushion by the refs, Usually about 10 points or more. Visitors always have to play very well to win and overcome that 10 point cushion. Even then, they usually get screwed over by the refs anyway. On The flip side, ku doesn’t always have to play well to win. They know they’ll be given whatever they need to win at home by the home refs.

Ou still could have won that game, but the refs deserve the most credit for Ku’s win.
