I agree with this (though part of the reason they're the #25 team is the fact that they beat us). The KSU loss was worse.

To me, the losses weren't so much the problem as the way we were playing. Hopefully, Saturday got us on the right foot again. We won handily on the road against a very good team despite not shooting the ball particularly well. In some respects, it's among our best wins of the season.

I don't think there's any doubt it was our best win of the season. The only one close was taking Villanova apart in Hawaii.

Yep. Great win at the right time. Let's ride it into the sunset. This week is huge. 2-0 this week all but clinches a top-two seed in the tourney. Puts us in great position for a one-seed.

Their RPI ranking is currently 23; their SOS is ranked third in the nation. They are tourney-bound, unless they blow it, and we were their third win in a row over a top 25 team. Panicky Sooner fans may view the loss as a bad one, but the committee won't.

Not comparied to KU's 19-point loss to oswho. Or Iowa's loss to Penn State. Or UVA's losses to Ga. Washington, Va. Tech and Georgia Tech. Or Mich State's loss to Nebraska.

Just because it's not the worst loss any team has had doesn't mean it's not a bad loss. Everything is relative. If you're a team gunning for a conference title, and a one seed, that is a bad loss. And that is us.

No, that would be k-state, not a top 25 loss

I guess it really depends on what a "bad loss" is. As far as I'm concerned, all losses are bad, but some are a little more palatable than others. By RPI definition relating to the NCAA tournament/getting a #1 seed, we don't have a bad loss this season.

As for winning the conference, then I would agree that @KSU and @Tech were crippling losses because KU won at both of those venues.

If you're a team gunning for a conference title, EVERY loss is a bad loss. In fact, losses to better teams are worse in the conference race because those are the teams you're competing against, and losing to them counts double, in a way -- a loss for you and a win for them.

If we had beaten KU just once, we'd be tied for first. If we'd beaten Tech (but not KU), we'd still be a game back.

As for seeds, the tourney committee looks at the RPI, the strength of schedule, etc. for the teams that beat you and other factors, such as whether you lost at home or on the road. They don't consider whether the team that beat you was ranked at the time, whether the school is a traditional basketball power, whether your fans are melting down online because of the loss. Those factors may upset some fans, but they don't figure into the committee's deliberations at all.

I'd prefer the 2/3 seed, not only b/c it means we're winning games, but it keeps us with the evening games on Thur/Fri.

Losing to that garbage IU team in the final four with a Maryland team we'd already drubbed waiting in the title game.

You're right; that was a bad one too. For me, though, it's No. 3 behind the aforementioned losses to the birdies.

To me, losing to a team that you are significantly better than is a bad loss. The fact that we had to play an absolutely atrocious game, and still would have won without a huge choke in the final minute, tells me all you need to know.

Losing to Kansas hurts more, but losing to Kansas is not a bad loss because we are not significantly better than them.

Fair enough. I think Tech's better than you're giving them credit for, but whatever.

But in any case, and I mean this with all due respect, the fact that you consider the Tech game a bad loss won't impact the committee's decision. By the standards they follow, it wasn't a bad loss.

I'm not sure we played better against Nova than we did when we dismantled Baylor. Maybe so, but that Baylor game was unbelievable.
