Big announcement from Kruger

Re: Big announcement from kruger

I am unsure why I am so pessimistic about this announcement being free student tickets for all home games. I think it's because I have in general held negative stereotypes when it comes to OU's athletic department making games an enjoyable experience for students in the time that I've been at OU. However I do feel that Kruger is truly trying to change the OU student experience for the better, so perhaps I should be more positive. In any case, this cannot be a bad thing with regards to promoting basketball for OU students, so I look forward to tomorrow's announcement, whatever it may be.

It's tough to sell a really crappy product to a demographic who has alternatives to occupy their time.

Are you guys talking about the same student body that didn't hang around through the rain delay at the TT football game?

To paraphrase George Lynn Cross, "We need to build a Student Body that our Athletic Teams can be proud of."

Yes, along with many others (i.e. non-students) who who decided to leave. It was an unfortunate weather situation, stuff happens.

Is that real quote? If so, facepalm for Mr. George Lynn Cross.

Supposedly, people in their late teens and early twenties are tougher than the older fans. Apparently, they are tough enough to stand all during games, but they melt when they get wet.

As for George Lynn Cross, here is the Wikipedia entry about him:

Cross was known for his public speaking ability and quick wit. His most famous quote came at a budget meeting with state legislators. After a long presentation and 45 minute justification of the OU budget,a legislator asked him why the university needed more money. A frustrated Cross replied "I would like to build a University of which the football team could be proud."[2]

Stuff like what?

I just don't get the animosity between OU fans of different ages. If a student doesn't want to arrive an hour early and wait to gametime, then ride out another 95 minute weather delay and stay for an entire game on a Saturday night...I get that. Just like I understand my co-worker driving up for Dallas, arriving in Norman and saying screw the delay to drive back and watch the second half live at home. All of these "expectations" on both parties are ridiculous.

Sooner_In_MI;317988 I do have to say I am unsure about moving student seats said:
The students used to get great seats and the LNC used to be considered one of the toughest venues in the country. Having the students at the game will make it a better environment. Students make college basketball in my opinion.

I don't feel any real animosity. But, if you are going to complain because people don't stand during the entire game, you shouldn't leave because of a rain delay.

I completely understand being unable to attend BB games because of night classes, study groups and jobs. But I've seen people give the excuse of the internet, Facebook, twitter etc as the things that occupy their time instead of going to games. That's just lame.

I just saw this on Facebook:

OU head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger will make a special announcement regarding student season tickets Thursday at noon in the Oklahoma Memorial Union food court.

Agreed, however, neither demographic demonstrates that behavior entirely, so why lump them all together?

Can honestly say I've never seen anyone give the excuse to miss an OU event (or pretty much any event) because of the need to Facebook. I'd be curious to see what kind of person says this.

I think the comment was made on this board but it could have been another. I don't remember specifically when, but I think it was Blake's sophomore year. I suppose the comment could have been facetious but if it was, they didn't include a smiley to indicate that.

The Reserve on Stinson will pay 100 of the 140 fee for student tickets... therefore making student tickets only $40

:facepalm

Good for the students, hope they show up in force.

Face value of the Texas A&M student football ticket this weekend is $39, students can now get into 16 basketball games for $1 more. There is literally no excuse for anyone who drops $180 on season tickets for football to not buy basketball tickets now. This is a great, great move by Kruger and the marketing staff and I thank them for making it. Really excited right now.

A letdown IMO. I thought they were going to make them free.

With all due respect, BigTime, where does one draw the line? $8.75 per game (before attendance-based refunds) was a great price, and $2.50 per is an absolute steal.

Honestly, those few students aside who truly can't afford the $40, I'd rather not have someone who cares that little about Sooner hoops attend the games; they'd likely bring very little energy, anyway, as they'd be too busy checking in on Foursquare and catching up on Facebook.

thats a very real quote and one of the greatest quotes in ou history

so, the price actaully went up for people who go to the game? Or are they still going to give a refund?
