Big money is reason why Kruger is at OU

Wonder if Buzz Williams ever was contacted by Joe C. After reading this?

Big Money is Why Bob Stoops Stays at OU!

So, your point is?

Like most things in life its all about the money. Below is an image of Big 12 salaries I found in the article also posted below below.

The point is we didn't pay Stoops big money until after he delivered at OU. He was our guy and we rewarded him for making us big-time. Paying someone big time money right out of the gate, is like hiring a mercenary for a lot of money. The only bond between you is that money.

Yes but Stoops had never been a head coach. What if we had hired Jim Donnan back then like Joe C. wanted? Do I think Joe C. had to over pay? Yes but I think it is the chicken or the egg because of the pending TV Network. They must revive the basketball program.

Certainly Kruger measures up stature wise as Barnes and Self.

People complained that Joe C. wouldn't "spend" enough money on a coach because he doesn't care about the basketball program, and now we are complaining because he spent too much? Sheesh! :facepalm

This is a fallacious argument. "Some" people complained Joe C wouldn't spend lots of money for a coach. "Some" other people are now complaining about the amount of money spent for Kruger considering he turned us down twice. There are hundreds of people on this board, opinions vary. If I had complained about not spending but was now complaining about spending too much then you could call me a hypocrite. We are not one voice, judge what I say based on what I say not what the consensus of the board is.

Fair enough. I would also implore you to look at the whole scenario, the money issue, not just from the side of Oklahoma, but you have to look at it from the side of UNLV as well. They were (reportedly) not going to be able to pay him what he currently makes in a couple of years, hence Kruger saying "I'd be lying if I didn't say the money was a factor". That factor wasn't just OU's contract or the amount included in, but UNLV's financial struggles as well.

Dem, you have good points that krugs is here for the Money and I think that you are right. It is just unpopular to talk about right now. In the end, we had to pay big to get someone that could do the things that tramel states in his response to les. A lot of people on the board thought that we would go on the cheap and ste just excited that we did not. Let's just hope that krugs has some fire and energy to get us where we all want to be.

So are you saying it is not okay that he came for the money? If I was offered double what I am making now, the job was challenging, in a community I would like, and working with people I could get along with, I can guarantee I would take the job. I would work as hard at the new job as I do at my current job. So, what is the problem?

I would do the same. If someone offered me twice what I'm making, I would work just as hard, if not harder, in the new job. Just because we made him an offer Coach Kruger, in the end, couldn't turn down doesn't mean he will approach our coaching position with any less enthusiasm and integrity than he's given to his previous coaching stops. I can't understand why he's being villified by some for doing what most normal people would do.

No, I would. I think it was great we stepped up and paid. He is a good to great coach and the only worry is that he will be complacent given the money, but I do not think that it will be a problem. I was just saying that the money was the motivation like Dem thought and he was right. But in the end we got our guy and I think he will do great. In addition to the money we are paying him, he will have a bigger budget to win bigger and a better athletic department.
