Big12 coach of the year

If it means we play with a chip on our shoulder this month I'll take it.

Under any criteria, Kruger is a better coach and has done a better job this year than Barnes. This is a load of crap.

I prefer to see the Sooners lose at all things but with that being said OU has gotten the short end of the stick on many issue with reguard to their team this year. From national rankings to individual honors in the conference OU has been disrespected. They have got to be the most silent second place team from the strongest conference that I can remember.

One of two things: 1) If ou has no players worthy of 1st team honors and they finish second in the league then it is a heck of a job coaching.

2) How can you give the honor to a coach that was swept by said competition.

Finally how does a team finish 2nd in the toughest league in the country without talented players or lack of first class coaching. Perhaps you can do that lacking one, but not both.

Very well said.

All spot on points, earlpearl!

Giving the nod to Barnes makes no sense at all. IMHO, he's not even a good coach. And, no, that is not sour grapes. I have said for years that Barnes is a good recruiter, but that he is a very average bench coach.

The only reason Barnes won it is because Texas was picked 8 to start the year.

The Big 12 coaches voted more UT players as all conference..So they are saying UT had the better roster....So OU swept them and finished ahead of them which means UT coach did a better job than Kruger?

Not sure why everybody is so upset over this.

Head to head, and positions in the final Big 12 rankings compared to one another have very little to do with how this award should be viewed. It's not a lifetime achievement award either.

I think LK deserved it, especially with us finishing alone in 2nd place. I do. But I'm pretty sure UT was picked more than one spot lower than us in the Preseason Poll. So in theory, UT moved up the standings more than OU did. And I'd take OU's roster over UT's any day of the week. I think it's close. I think both are probably deserving. Yes, I think Lon was a little more deserving, but it's close enough that I can't be pissed off mad that LK didn't win it.

Just print this list out and hang it up in the locker room. Hilarious. The team won't be happy when they see it.

How did Spangler at least not make all newcomer team?

I thought he would be a lock, but if you look at who made the team, who does Spangler replace? I think he probably should have gotten it over Taylor, but I can't really make a case for him over the other 4.

Lets start by Big 12 leading rebounder

Rick Barnes is being rewarded for creating his own dumpster fire and driving the school with the most resources in the country to the first round of the CBI.

In 3 years, Lon Kruger has taken a program he inherited off its two worst seasons in three decades, and turned them into the number 2 team in the best conference in the country.

Eh. I don't think that matters in this discussion. At least in my eyes it doesn't.

Schools fall down all the time. Florida one back to back NC's, then was NIT bound for two years. There is no doubt that UT stunk last year, and Barnes cleaned house. He got rid of the problems. Most thought UT would stink again this year. They did not.

I'm not sure when the voting occurred, but it may have been before UT lost to TT yesterday. If that is the case, I can see how it happened even more.

Like I said, I'd give the edge to LK, but it's closer than most of you think. Picking apart why UT was picked so low, none of that matters. He did a good job this year, just like LK did. My guess is that the coaches thought OU had considerably more talent to work with.

While I don't agree that Barnes is deserving of the award, your logic is sound. OU was picked to finish in a tie for fifth with K-State (6th in some preseason polls). UT was picked to finish eighth.

The main kick in the teeth to me is that OU beat the Whorns twice in the regular season. I might not be nearly as upset if we had split with them. Now, I'm hoping we get to play them again. Kicking their arse a third time might make me feel a little better.

OU was a preseason pick to finish 5th or 6th. The Sooners finished all alone in 2nd place.

Texas was picked at No. 8. The whorns finished in a tie with Iowa State for 3rd/4th.

So, yeah, I guess you COULD say UT "moved up the standings more than OU did."

The Sooners finished with a better overall record and better conference record than UT – AND swept the whorns head-to-head.

Your argument is somewhat weak, WT.

Edit: Sorry, Ada. I guess you made your post while I was typing my own.
