Billy Clyde Resigns

Sure hate that we missed the boat on him! Shame, he had the chance to be on top of the profession and now after two failed attempts it will be hard for him to find another job for a few years.

Tough break for Tech. Billy G. was a good coach with a character flaw. I'm just glad that Joe C. overcame the temptation to give him a chance and hope that it didn't rear its ugly head in Norman. The last thing OU's program needed was the kind of pub this has brought to Lubbock.

Yes we dodged a bullet on this one. I was one of those that thought we should've hired him. I was wrong and so glad joe c hired Kruger.

It amazes me that anyone would want this guy over Capel after what he did at Kentucky. You may think that Capel wasn't the greatest coach in the world but BCG had 2 of the worst seasons Kentucky has ever seen and he even failed to make the ncaa tournament in his 2nd season. And he had way more talent during those 2 years than Capel had during the post Griffin era. Patrick Patterson, Joe Crawford, Ramel Bradley and Jodie Meeks...and he struggled to win with those players.

2 years at Kentucky and I knew that he was overrated as a coach. This guys name shouldn't even have been mentioned as a replacement for Capel. The guy had Patrick Patterson and he couldn't make it to the tournament.

I can understand why many OU fans wanted him. aTm had one of the 5 worst BCS men's basketball programs in America before he got there. He made them highly competitve in no time at all. The only reason I was never on board with hiring him is because my boss is a UK grad and gave me some inside info on him that led me to believe his implosion at TTech was "predictable." If he can get his personal life together, he'll be back at a UTEP-type school within 2-3 years.

Don't hire basketball coaches who get victimized by ponzi schemes.

Well, Capel is available. He hasn't been scooped up yet. The west Texas wastelands might be the right spot for him.

Highly doubt that Capel ever leaves the Mid Atlantic or east coast again. His comfort zone is in those areas which is the reason he constantly kept flying there to recruit players.

I'm glad we don't have tech's players that whine and cry because practicie got too tought for them

Does he have other problems in addition to alcohol?

I will admit, a few of their accusations were weak. With that said, Clyde was way out of line, you can't have nine hour practices and double the NCAA allotted time for a week.

But we have guys on our team that wish they could practice double the allotted time. Ro and M'baye cant get enough of the gym

HUGE difference between charge/defensive drills and getting jumpers up after practice.

Apples to oranges comparison.

Not sure he gets a D1 job ever again. If he takes the right steps to get himself cleaned up and on the right path, maybe he gets a job at a D2 or D3 school. Or maybe he can find his way back as an assistant coach somewhere. Nobody is going to be calling him for a while though.
