His Oklahoma City University Lady Stars won the NAIA Division 1 National Championship tonight. Team finished 34-2. Congratulations to a former Sooner coach and player.

OU women's assistant basketball coach at one time. And he's coached women's basketball overseas. He has quite a resume.

Congrats, Bo!

Bo Overton was the "OU Assistant" at the time. Hansmeyer had not yet arrived, but took over after EArriaran RECRUITED the twins to OU.

"Arriaran gave Courtney an e-mail address for one of OU's assistant coaches. Courtney e-mailed: "Hey, I'm Courtney Paris. I'm interested in you guys. Hopefully, you're interested in me. Erika told me about you."

Very interesting article considering the dismal recruiting...IMO. And Jody Conradt probably would be still coaching if all three had landed in Texas....and maybe with a few more NC's.

EDIT: I just read that again. CParis had to send an email to OU? They had not contacted her? It's worse than I thought and IMO have not changed.

It's the one that's winning a NC with a former OU assistant that was with the team when they made it to the NC game in 2002 and was a great recruiter.:D

Congratulations to Bo.

But you need to keep this in perspective. What teams are left in NAIA today? Do a check on which schools are still competing at that level. First across the country - and then check on Oklahoma schools.

It is surprising that OCU has stayed at that level when almost everyone else has left it (a move I personally question pretty strongly). But didn't they (OCU) even discuss dropping athletics a while back?

I don't include a "But"; either they reached the goal or they didn't. We could say Geno Auriemma won this and that BUT he would not be that successful if .... Overton didn't win last year, so it's growth anyway you look at it. Now if he stays there and five years from now he's digressed...time to move on.

Agreed. AND how many other coaches have won NCs at OCU in the last 15-20 years??? AND what were their names???

Bo has baggage, as we can all remember, but if he has cleaned up his act he might be worth considering when Sherri retires, although he's about as old as me.

Some on here will find anything they can to discredit Bo.

Given what Joe Castiglione and David Boren have been through, I think there is a 0% chance they would let Sherri Coale bring Bo back. Maybe that's not fair, but I would be willing to bet it's reality.

You are probably 100% correct.

I don't recall any negatives about BO when he was here. What happened?

Not here. Later. Allegedly got too involved with one of his players -- I think. Short of a relationship-- or maybe it was language or something. I remember it raised eyebrows.
