Bryce Thompson Transferring

That seems a very odd move to me. Why is he aiming so low? Has his confidence taken a hit?

As rickjames said, perhaps it's related to a family matter.

Phipps went from OU and then inserted an "R."

Bryce hasn't committed to TU. Don't believe that at all.

Heck ya!

Tulsa is killing the transfer market this year.

Bryce Thompson from KU
Jeriah Horne from Colorado
Sam Griffin from UT-Arlington

If the season started today:

PG: Darien Jackson --- 6'3'' 190 --- AAC 6th Man of the Year last year.. Averaged 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.

SG: Bryce Thompson --- 6'5'' 195--- (Transfer from KU - McDonalds All-American)

SG: Sam Griffin ---- 6'3'' 180---- (Transfer from UTA --- Averaged 13.3 ppg on 40% 3pt shooting last year)

PF: Jeriah Horne - 6'7'' 225 (Transfer from CU - Averaged 11 and 6 for CU last season)

PF: Rey Idowu - 6'9'' 245 --- Averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds per game for TU last year.

They've signed a really nice high school class as well.

That would be a damn impressive roster for tu.

Sounds like this comes down to who makes the best pitch: Boynton, Moser or Haith... based on the rosters, Bryce should have an opportunity to play at any of the 3

Was promised point guard & was forced to be a spot up shooter.

I can’t see us promising him the pg spot with Harmon being told the same thing.

That’s the thing though, you can still promise what you can offer & see if it’s enough. Tell him he’ll get the opportunity to try for it, I mean Harmon still had quite a bit of ball handling duties. However, Moser’s offense doesn’t offer as much freedom.

Everyone knew what was going to happen at Ku. Dribble handoffs and stand in the corner.

Self wouldn’t let Wiggins go.... he isn’t letting Bryce.

Ou coaches told him that. But kids gotta make their own decisions

Yeah I knew it wouldn’t work & didn’t see him as a fit there. I see Harmon’s role as perfect for him, secondary ball handler & mainly focus on scoring.

I would think if harmon is secondary ball handler then that would leave BT to do what he wants...be the "pg"....just my take.

as in not allowing a transfer within league or not letting him be the creator?

As in not giving a freshman like Thompson freedom to run with the ball.

That's on Rod for pushing the kid to Kansas when Self has NEVER allowed a freshman guard to run the show.

Yeah, coach and others have pretty much nailed this one. He wasn’t given freedom to run the offense and drive. Bryce was never a shooter, yet was forced into that type of role at KU, because that’s what they do.

He wants to run the offense, he wants to drive. He doesn’t want to stand at the 3 point line and spot up.

Tulsa can/has offered that type of role. OK state definitely can’t with Anderson as the main PG. OU is an unknown due to a new coach. Had Kruger and Carlin been here, I think OU would be a real leader here. With Moser, I don’t know that there’s a strong connection to convince him the KU thing won’t happen here.

Also, don’t worry about in conference transfers. That rule goes away before basketball season starts next year.
