Bubble Watch

that is all great and i agree with it and appreciated it .. BUT ..

bringing moser back .. does NOTHING to bring the fan base back .. (in fact it sets that goal back another year at least) ..
I agree completely. We’re finally (allegedly) going to invest in the program to win. Why would we keep the coach who’s clearly failed? Why not hire a good coach to manage the increased investment? We need both. This feels like a half measure. We should never half ass anything. We should whole ass everything.

Sick burn - just a knock at the committee (and your constant bitching) about non-conference metrics and SOS. It clearly didn't matter for Miami OH so why not schedule 13-14 cream puffs and start undefeated.
Because even when we do start undefeated, Moser sucks so bad he still misses the tournament.

Reid is going to be hard to keep IMHO .. some one is going to unload on him
I’m finding it hard to believe next years team will be as talented as the roster OU had this year. The "resource him up" **** bothers the hell out of me right now because this squad was the most talented since 2016 and the end result was the SAME as every other damn year.

Reid has the makings of an all conf player and will prob cost 2-3x what OU paid him this year. OU needs to pay him and get a BIG which will cost in the same range, Color me skeptical.

What ifs:
Oklahoma beats Arkansas - In
Miami (OH) beats UMass - In
Saint Louis beats Dayton and VCU - In

Win one of ANY of:
Missouri double game winner buzzer beater
Nebraska collapse
Alabama at home
(either of the two bottom feeders in the SEC that trounced you)

More Moser.

I am bitter this morning.

Still don't think SMU/Miami(OH)/Texas should be in over us, but oh well.

From Ken Pomeroy's newsletter:

Hey, we have odds. But first, a few random thoughts.

The committee’s terrible SMU rationale

Pretty good job by the committee, who went by WAB for inclusion with the exception of swapping in SMU for Auburn. Look, you shouldn’t feel sorry for Auburn, but if you are going to use a system you have to use it. The reason given for SMU’s inclusion was the terrible, awful, injury excuse. Presumably, BJ Edwards will be back for the tournament after missing the last six games for the Ponies, a stretch in which they went 1-5. I mean, all the big college hoops media guys are saying he’s definitely back. So he’s definitely back, right?

Right?
OK, cool!
Well, wait a second. “Expected to return” isn’t giving me a warm fuzzy feeling he’ll be back. I mean, SMU has every incentive to say this. And it’s not like there’s any penalty for being wrong. But hey, I’m sure they’re being honest!
Um, what? Like what are the chances he even plays?

Evaluating roster strength or the effect of absences should not be in the committee’s domain. For one thing, many basketball people suck at this task, and the people on the committee are not even basketball people. They don’t understand things like 3-point luck, which has killed SMU recently and has little to do with Edwards’ absence.

And furthermore, three of those losses while he was gone were by 8, 13, and 20 points. How many points do you think BJ Edwards is worth? No doubt SMU has played worse without him, but you just can’t ignore the last six games if you want to get into the roster evaluation business (which to be clear, you shouldn’t). BJ Edwards is not Michael Jordan. If you believe betting markets, Edwards is worth about 2 points to SMU. Hardly enough to explain all or even most of SMU’s issues down the stretch.

But aside from all that, why are we doing this to determine who qualifies for the postseason? No other serious sports league does this. Neither should the NCAA.

From the Basket Under Review Newsletter:

Duke claimed the No. 1 overall seed, with Arizona, Florida and Michigan rounding out the rest of the top line. The last four teams in the field were NC State, Texas, SMU and Miami (OH). The first four teams out were Oklahoma, Auburn, San Diego State and Indiana.

In an interview after the bracket reveal, Selection Committee Chair Keith Gill said Miami (OH) wasn't the last team selected into the field, but due to scrubbing procedures ended up as the "last team in.". He also said VCU would not have made the tournament if they'd not won the Atlantic 10 tournament title.

I mean, he literally filled this year’s team with talent from the portal. Why couldn’t that happen again - in a better way, with more money?

this years roster was pretty good money ball to fill it with a lot of talent ..

looking at the past i don't think it is likely they accomplish that again .. and it will take more money just to return this roster ..

Which is exactly why they need more resources. There's a reason they've had to play moneyball. There's no coach in America building great rosters without financial support. You can't compete in the SEC without it. Hell, we've actually overachieved our spend, as much as people don't want to hear that.

So I assume you predicted we would finish in the bottom four in the league?

With our top 10 portal class we probably got the most bang for our buck but unfortunately our clueless coach couldn’t do anything with it

The price for the guys we have is going up. The price goes up every year in the portal so the increased NIL has to be substantial.

I could also say, moser had his most talented team this year and the results were the same. Failure. So, when we increase NIL and get some talented players, moser will spit out the same results again, failure. So, why is he our coach again?

i agree about the basketball program and Coaches needing more resources to compete with getting players, but i still worry that Moser is not an overall good enough coach to avoid the same old reason OU loses basketball games under his watch. I wanted change, that's not happening so i have accepted it and hope next season works out and it finally comes together provided that the administration does provide more resources and Moser can take advantage of them.
