Buddy Hield has committed to Oklahoma

I think OU has to get a big man in this years class with Fitz, Osby and Arent all being Juniors this year.

Does his last name rhyme with field or filed?

Nice get Coach Kruger!!!Buddy will be a welcomed addition to the team...Now find another top 100 player..Go sooners!!!!!:clap

First let me say I am ecstatic with this commit. You need the first one to get the ball rolling, but I do have a few questions...

Did KU offer this guy? And with Perry Ellis committing to KU is this a guy that will jump on a KU offer if one does come?

KU infact did offer. Buddy was scheduled to go to Nebraska for the Nebraska vs. Ohio State game and then to the Jayhawks' midnight madness event.

At this point, coaches are getting their last arguments in. This past weekend, the Sooners anticipated on having Jerami Grant, Phil Forte, and Marcus Smart coming in along with the two guys they brought in, but things didn't work out that way. But in the end, they could potentially get two top 100 wings and a versatyle 6'9 player that is already on the radar of NBA scouts. Along with that, they also brought in three top 150 2013 kids with Jordan Woodard, Juwan Parker, and Julius Randle all coming in for a visit this past weekend along with a guard Marquan Botley who is on the radar of the coaching staff.

Actually no KU did not offer Buddy but who cares? This is the mentality I don't get. We hate on a program like Kansas, but it's important to hear they offered a kid we got. They took a look at him, but to my understanding Buddy did not hold a Kansas offer. To me that doesn't matter at all though.

If it doesnt mater, then why say anything? I dont think WJ is going to lie about it. I'll take his word over yours, sorry.

I'm trying to be a good boy. Sam has already scolded me on the same topic in a private message. Didn't you notice I let the juvenile dumb comment in the post above yours go without making an issue. See, I can do better.

I did notice, and I was pleased to see it. Well done!

How does Jelon compare to Buddy?

Posted 27 June 2011 - 05:00 PM
Jelon Hornbeak
6'4
185 pds
SG
2012 High School : Arlington Grace Prep
AAU : Texas PRO

Rivals # 64 on it's top 150
Rivals # 10 on it's top SGs

ESPN evaluation : Hornbeak is a smooth operator on the floor for his age. He's highly skilled with the ball which makes for very efficient play on the offensive end. He has range out to 25' both off the dribble and catch. I think he prefers the ball in his hands, but is more than capable of coming off screens for jump shots. When the ball is in his hands good things happen. He sees the floor with vision and can deliver pinpoint passes. His handle allows him to get inside the defense to score on floaters in the lane and shots at the rim.

I assume Buddy Hield is one of the wings. Who is the other and who is the big guy?

Speaking first hand to Buddy and his coach, I am positive he had an offer.

Jelon Hornbeak is the wing out of Grace Prep in Arlington and Anthony Criswell, the 6'9 combo forward originally from OKC.

Sam and I will likely see Hornbeak and Hield match up against each other November 4th in Wichita Falls Texas at the Elite 14 Showcase. Hardcore basketball fans can go to www.elite14.com to see the lineup of very good teams from Oklahoma and Texas.

If we can pull off Hornbeak and Criswell I will have no complaints whatsoever. That would be a solid haul for the year. I'm really interested to see what the staff pulls off next year with all the scholarships available.

Hield is more of a shooter than anything else, is that correct?

That is what I like out of my SG's. I like stone cold shooters. Guys that can fill it up from the perimeter.

Yes that would be a nice hall right there.

I think scorer may be a better description. But when a guy shoots 47% from behind the arc, I don't have a problem with calling him a shooter. Either way, I like what I have seen of Mr. Hield.

Found a good article on this kid that made me like him even more. Check it out if you have the time. Here's one part that caught my attention. Gotta love a kid who says his schoolwork is just as important as basketball:

Outside of basketball, Hield said he currently hold as 3.8 GPA in school and said his schoolwork is just as important as basketball.

His mindset, skills and determination has student-athlete written all over it.

What's the story on Crisswell? I keep hearing this talk about him peaking NBA interest. Didn't he average like 3 pts and 3 boards at UAB? I don't know anything about the kid, but NBA talk seems like a lot of hype for a kid averaging 3 & 3 in 14 minutes. Has he been injured or in a tough situation? Not being down on the kid, just curious.

Who was Dennis Rodman at 17 or 18? Perhaps he is late bloomer. I know nothing about this kid or any NBA interest but Dennis Rodman is most certainly not the only late bloomer. Bryant Reeves was nobody his senior year of high school and he started for OSU as a true freshman going on to be a lottery pick.

There is a chance OU may get two commitments out of the visits this upcoming Saturday. I will have more info on that at the end of the week.
