Here are some positives.
1. Cade Davis - the kid has turned into a heckofu player. He averaged close to 20 ppg in that tourney. Going into the season I wondered if we would have a go-to guy. Now I think we have two guys that we can go to for scoring. Cade and Fitz. Fitz showed early on that we can throw it to him and get buckets. Now if he can just learn to stay out of foul trouble we could have something.
2. Carl Blair - After the first two games I thought it would be a long season without a PG. But Blair seems to have taken that spot, which means we have a true PG that looks to set other people up. Eventually that should help Pledger to get back on track when he penetrates and kicks out. It's just an adjustment right now for Blair and Pledger.
3. Tyler Neal - A few weeks ago I thought Neal might be 11th on the depth chart and we would have to wait a year or two for him to be a factor. But in that 2nd half against Virginia he showed that he can play. He may not be consistent yet but it looks as if he'll get a shot now and can help us on both ends.
4. Depth - For as long as I can remember, we have only played 7 guys. Even in Capel's Elite-8 year and Kelvins' best years we had 5 starters and a couple of guys like Selvy, Spaulding, Heywood, Leary, Patillo or Cade who could contribute off the bench. This team has 10 guys that are all capable of playing some role. Capel hasn't figured out how much to play each guy yet, but if he does, we should be able to withstand injuries that were so costly in the past by plugging in the 8th, 9th or 10 guy and not having a huge dropoff.
How's that for a glass is half-full outlook?
Happy Thanksgiving
