Capel could still be on the way out >>> The Oklahoman

Unless someone is ponying up; at minimum a $5million buyout and another $1 million to $1.5 million for a new coach, I doubt Capel is going anywhere.

they had a "man, you really stink" clause in the contract.

Perfect example of why I HATE long-term extensions for any coach not named Stoops.

If OU cannot afford a buy out, OU simply has to stop extending coaches like that. If that means we piss one off, and lose them, so be it.

Re: Berry Tramel: OU may have won Bedlam, but Jeff Capel could still be on

Hey another clown post about Joe C.!!! BTW missed you and your little numbers game around here ever since we won Saturday. You busy trying to find mythical reasons why Joe C is "on the hot seat?"
Based on these numbers, Joe C should definitely be fired. I mean, this is just unacceptable. Not to mention we are one of the few athletic departments to send money to academics. To the PEOPLE THAT MATTER, he's one of the best in the Biz.

Football - Big 12 Champs BCS Bowl Winners #6 final ranking.

Volleyball - NCAA Sweet Sixteen

Women's Soccer - NCAA Tournament

Men's Cross Country - Won Midwest Region and finished #5

Baseball - 14-0 and #2, and probably #1 next week.

Softball - National Top Ten

Track - Both Men and Women ranked in Top Ten

Men's Gymnastics - #1 in the nation

Women's Gymnastics - #4 in the nation.

Wrestling - #7 in the nation.

Women's Basketball - Top 25 and NCAA Lock.

Men's Basketball - 13-17

Thats good stuff. Really really good stuff, makes me happy to be a Sooner.

How could any of you want to keep Capel? He is the worst coach in the conference!

Re: Berry Tramel: OU may have won Bedlam, but Jeff Capel could still be on

Joe C is greatness.

Joe C. is easily one of the most respected and is a tremendous caretaker of our athletic programs. But don't give him any credit for hiring Golloway because it was Boren who stepped in after the Stephenson fiasco. Joe was leaving on vacation and settled for Sonny due to constraints and Boren's involvement. When Joe interviewed Stoops it was Boren who said cancel the other interviews.Joe C. gets way to much credit for Bob's hiring. In fact he has not been as good with his hires as you might think. His first soccer coach was bad. His first track coach was a bust. His first volleyball coach was a bust. Coale and Gasso weren't hired by him. His first golf coach was a bust. However the new tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, and track coaches are stellar.

The reasons why Joe is one of the best is not due necessarily because of his hires.

It's also not because of his contract negotiations.
He made a HUGE mistake giving Capel such a large raise and long extension.

Some of that had to do with being miffed Sampson would leave for Indiana and he thought Capel was going to Clemson? can't remember where????

There are probably less than 10 jobs that are definitely better than OU, when OU is going well. Indiana is one of them. Clemson is not. If Joe C was "miffed" that Kelvin would consider them, Joe C isn't very smart.

That said, without the trouble he was in at OU, I'm not sure he would have left. Kelvin had a good thing at OU, and his best in coming class.

All of the following are better, and always have or will be better than OU. As you can see, it's more than ten.

Kansas
Duke
UNC
Indiana
Michigan State
Kentucky
UCLA
Syracuse
Ohio State
Illinois
Villanova
Lousiville
Arizona
Georgetown
Marquette

I disagree with Syracuse, Ohio State, Villanova, Louisville, Georgetown, and Marquette. Those jobs are not always better than OU.

You have to think, the way I worded my statement, you'd have to be willing to leave a good OU team behind to take over any of those programs, even if they are down. Sorry, but Kelvin (the last coach we had that had the program going good) would not have left for Ohio State, or Georgetown. That is laughable.

Re: Berry Tramel: OU may have won Bedlam, but Jeff Capel could still be on

OU was a top 15 program over the last 20 years or so. Right at number 15. Some of our fans STILL don't give us enough credit.

Georgetown is basketball school, it is a better hoops job than OU. Also, Ohio State has a nice arena and has great fan support.

Ridiculous

OSU is a basketball school too, but they aren't better than OU. UF has how many more NC's then OU, but they aren't a better program than OU. Heck, every ACC/Big East school is a basketball school, but they aren't all better jobs then OU. Temple? No.

As for Ohio State, of course they have good fan support, they have been winning at a high level for a few years. That is b/c of their coach, not the program.

You can add UCONN to that list though. And I agree with your first 7 schools, plus Arizona, so that is nine. 10 wasn't an exact number.
