Capel to Missouri possible

If Capel were to join a Big 12 team (say Mizzou), would we boo or cheer for him when his team comes to the LNC?

I would picture it as if it was treating an ex girlfriend of which you had a bad break up with, when you see them you'll act nice and treat them with respect, but then trash them when no one is looking...

it isn't like Capel didn't suffer heartache too. granted, he was paid for it ... but his career is negatively affected also.

he paid his dues by suffering like we have. he doesn't deserve any harassment.

I agree but I also don't give a rat's @$$ about Jeff Capel. I really can't feel too bad for a guy that banked well over $5,000,000 in five years when he isn't even 40. Capel will be fine. Even if he never makes big bucks again, he should be set for life from his time at OU. He should have well over $2,000,000 saved prior to turning 40.

Also, we have players that think highly of him.

The best outcome would be win the game and behave with some class - no matter how hard that might be.

if you want to rag on Capel be my guest, OU made him a rich man and he destroyed our program

Yeah, as an assistant. Dean Blevins said that was "the talk" from a coach in Houston.

Well that is what he is at this stage, an assistant coach. He can't run a top program. Hard to believe he would want to stay in the same league though.

I will personally tell him how he destroyed the enjoyment of my first season as an OU student if he comes to town with Mizzou next year.

This is really stupid and it's sad that you're a representative of this university. You're obviously a young kid, but it's time to grow up.

I actually wouldn't mind this at all.

Haith's staff at Miami leaves a lot to be desired (basically local/regional guys hired on the cheap because that's the best Miami could do).

Haith needs to make a big splash early in recruiting if he's going to have any chance to succeed. Capel wasn't a good head coach, but he has been a good recruiter. If he can help bring in a few recruits, he's worth a hire.

After thinking about it some; my earlier comments were out of line, I was wrong.

Crazy that people actually believe that money can buy happiness or invincibility. Because Capel has money he can't be affected by idiots crapping on his name, because he has money he is a fair target for ignorant bile?

I don't really care if you want to rag on the guy, I fully endorse people being the full douchbag that they are. I realized long ago I have no power to stop the morons of the world from being what they are. But keep your effed up logic about it to yourself, and just embrace your ignorance for what it is. There would be more dignity in it.

Quick question, would we still have to pay Capels buyout if he took another job? Im not sure how those things work

Some people act like the guy came to Norman with the intention of destroying Our program, and in the process his coaching rep. Some of you guys really are pathetic. He was OUr coach, and we had a bad run. The guy never disgraced OU, he never bad mouthed OUr icons, our tradition, or anything else. He simply had a bad run as a coach.

Some of you bashing Capel are the same ones who fawn over a guy like Bosworth who has bashed OUr school, told players to NOT come here, and finally said a token I'm sorry, and all is well. It looks really petty and pathetic to the nation when you have a coach who struggled, but was a decent person and all you want to do is bash him. Scnelly gets more respect than JC around here, and that is sad.......

Well said! Thank you!

If he acknowledged the crowd or something, I'd show some class and clap for him.

Last sentence is totally not true, but the rest is good.

This board is not at all representative of maturity and objectivity in the general fanbase. Almost all have a certain level of respect for Capel as a person. Not true with Scnelly.

If he comes back to Norman as an assistant, I'd shake his hand and wish him all the best.

He was not a great, maybe not even a good coach for OU. But he gave it his best and showed class while doing it. I have no bones to pick with him. And I certainly don't disparage a man for earning a good income.

I found this article, and while I'm not trying to put Capel down, I find it funny how guys will just make things up to sell a coach to a fanbase. I believe the two qualities he mentions are probably Capel's weaknesses, but if he mentions him as a strong recruiter, I'd have no problem.

Several sources say that he is going to bring former Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel along as his top assistant. Capel has a good reputation in the business for his bench work and X's and O's.
