Capels last year

Until what? Our football program is all that matters. And we didn't fire Bob Stoops after a 5 loss season which we had similar problems of lack of motivation. If OU goes 0 fer in football next season they won't fire Bob Stoops either.

your so full of crap trying to compare Bob and his program to capel and how he has took our bball program to a downward spiral faster than i can type.

I haven't said this before, but Capel's gotta go. I was critical of him last year, but wanted to see what he could do this year. I don't care what players he has, NO WAY should the University of Oklahoma EVER lose to a D-II school. Hell, we almost lost to a D-I newcomer (NCC), so it's not like this is an aberration. What, are we going to keep him around so we can have another TMG-Tiny class that kills our program even more? Or keep him around to get the scraps who have character, but aren't that good? I don't mean to knock our players, but good Lord, this is getting ridiculous. If it weren't for BG, he'd be gone already. What a trainwreck. See you all at the LNC December 9, I bet the CSC Event Staff will outnumber the fans. [/rant]

Tony & OUHoops I'm curious as to why you would be shocked if he got fired after this season. If this team continues like this I was going to say I'd be shocked if he's BACK next year.
I just think that the OU program still has a lot of interest in the job but the longer it keeps spiraling backwards the harder it will be to attract a really good coach. Thoughts?

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I get the feeling that Castiglione is very much in Capel's corner, and knowing that this year would be a down year it would really surprise me. I really don't know though.

The NCAA stuff could have an effect though. I wonder what is up with that. We haven't heard anything about it in months.

I would agree if the team played hard and looked like a well coached team. Right now we have 1 guy who cares and we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. We will be hard pressed to have more that 3k for any game but OSU, Texas and Kansas. Plus it looks like we have a bunch of wasted scholarships for next year. Unless Capel is willing to cut 2 more guys go I dont see this team be a whole lot better next year. Osby is unproven and the JUCO guy you never know, but they have to be better than what we are firing out right now.

Capel looks clueless to me. I dont understand his substitutions or his strategy at times.

I disagree with your scenario/analogy.

It's just a gut feeling mostly. We knew we were going to suck this year. If Castiglione wanted Capel gone, the time to can him would have been after last season. But he stuck with him knowing that the NCAA was investigating and that we would not be any good this year.

Like I said, though, I don't really know. We are worse than even I expected so perhaps that could change things.

I'm only pointing out Joe C doesn't fire coaches. It doesn't matter how humiliating they are. Look at the wrestling program as a shining example.

There is a different between sucking and losing to Chaminade though.
I didn't get to see the game but it sounds like the team played with the same effort as last night and last year. Effort should be there every night. It wasn't there last year and if it continues this year I don't see how he keeps his job. Again, I didn't see todays game so if I'm wrong I apologize. Just going by some posts I've read. Thanks for the response Tony. It will be interesting to see what happens thats for sure.

None of those coaches make any real money. Capel makes 1.5 million. He will be fired.

comparing our bball program to our wrestling program is just so laughable

You are correct, BUT, I don't think Joe C imagined that this team would have a similar effort approach to last year's team. We've come ready to play in three games (CSU, Texas Southern and UK) out of six. This team doesn't have the talent to just play when they want to play. They have to compete at a feverish pace every single game. That's where Coach Capel needs to do a better job of - pushing the right buttons so these players want to COMPETE game in a game out.

I hope this isn't Coach Capel's last year since I would consider myself a big supporter. Still, as a fan base, we are not going to be statisfied with watching our favorite team show up only every other game.

This isn't about Coach Capel and posters feelings for him. This is about OKLAHOMA basketball and the state of failure we find ourselves in. OUr program comes first, not Coach Capel.

I'm sorry but this...made me laugh really loud. Let's kinda...get back to sane world, ok?

Lack of effort, inability to attract high profile assistants, inability to keep kids out of trouble, and losing are all reasons Capel should be fired.

If Capel doesn't put a product on the floor that shows promise, Joe C will have no choice but to fire him.

today would be okay with me

I think he gets 1 more year but I am thinking for the long term success of our program we need to start over from scratch with a new coach who knows how to put a quality product on the floor.

win or lose against chaminade, capel is done after this season. This program is a shell of itself.

we can only hope. Ship this guy back to virginia or north carolina and make him someone's assistant.

He has to go. I'm not a real knee-jerk type guy, but Capel clearly can't evaluate talent (or character for that matter). He doesn't seem to have any semblance of offensive or defensive strategy. Can you imagine the football team switching offenses every game? Oh, we already did that with John Blake.
