I think depth is more of a problem than depth. We have outrebounded every opponent except South Florida, and we lost that by one or two only, and they are a good rebounding team. We rebound pretty well.
I don't know about our interior defense, not having seen the UAB game. It was really weak in the first game. But, it isn't all that easy to score inside against us. I think we count on position, and when we play good defense, they simply don't score inside.
Mandy isn't setting the world on fire. But, she is rebounding pretty well and can hit a cripple. Thus far, I am more afraid of EJ or Lampkin throwing the ball away, losing it on a turnover or offensive foul, or missing a shot that should be a gimme than I am of having Mandy's height on the floor. EJ is a senior. I guess she'll never learn. Nydia just needs to work on rebounding and playing position defense. Leave the scoring to the guards. I really don't want her with the ball right now.
I, too, would like to see Aspen giving some sort of chance, just to see if she can play. Are they redshirting her? She has the power to hold her position.
I think we can live with just a rebounding post. We have scorers. They just need to learn to work together. But, the primary problem is that they can't all play forty minutes at that pace. We don't have any depth that has surfaced that can be effective. It really is:
Madi
Jessi
Taylor
Tatum
Shaina---settle down
Ana----heal
Mandy
Ana is missing. Who else does no harm? I hope that Nydia can come around. But, she is as raw as they get. These seven (six right now) can get very tired by the end of a game.
In the past two games, we seem to have curtailed our turnovers a lot. But, we aren't getting shots either? Slowing down, or better defenders?
