Coach Capel about to be on the sports animal

On storm…… “As long as Baylor gets to Norman tonight and officials are here, OU will play tomorrow night”

“If weather is bad. OU will probably let anyone in….depends on severity of storm”
After aTm loss, what did u see? “Saw improvement but team wasn’t ready for big 12 play, saw OU getting better after Baylor….tough to see after playing aTm, at Baylor and at Texas”

"Colorado was a hot team coming in when OU played them…..OU played well defensively, had a lead several times but able to close out in the end"

On Pledger’s play….”Playing time has helped, OU has a short bench, only one guard off bench is Newell, at ISU he scored 8 points in a row in overtime, not only made 3’s, as good as a performance by a guard besides Willie at ISU”

“Played well at ISU but OU’s best two scorers didn’t score in double figures”

On defensive play….”Struggled playing man early, then played 1-3-1 against Oral Roberts, Baylor was too big to play man but really in the Texas game played better man defense than zone, that is when OU started playing mainly man defense, focus has gotten better, especially help side defense by not allowing straight line drives to the basket, and lastly communications has improved”

On Osby….Al asked him about being highly recruited and why he didn’t put up better numbers. “He was playing behind good players, but Udoh didn’t put up good numbers at Michigan then at Baylor he was better…..People who have watched OU practice say OU would have 4-6 more wins because of Osby, 41 inch wing span, shoots really well, he is the one guy who can make wow plays besides Clark, he will put him up against best players in league”

“One or two guys away from improving depth and athleticism that will allow big lineup”

On Goff….”Had surgery early in season, averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds, needs to go to offensive glass more, works hard”

On April recruiting period….”Feel like in good position with a couple guys, recruiting is a dirty game, OU being attacked because of some things going on, kids need to trust coaches”

Excellent recap. Thank you

Just to add a few things: Toward the end Al asked him about Tiny and TMG.

On Tiny: "In the D league and doing well"

On TMG: Capel's voice changed, became more stern almost "Tommy got cut from Sioux Falls". Capel was ready to drop it by Al said "I heard he was at the Colorado game". Capel "Some of the guys told me he was in town and then came to the game''. That was it. You could tell he wanted to drop it

Also earlier in the interview he was talking about possible lineups for next year and mentioned "Clark at the 2, Osby 3, Fitz 4, and Goff 5...he said he was "getting excited just thinking about our lineup options"

You could hear the releif in Capel's voice. Also, it sounded like he believed his own excitement for next year.

Very good point with the Udoh comparison.

Not saying he'll emulate Udoh's career, but sometimes a transition can make a huge difference for a player.

I could get excited about that lineup. I don't believe fitz or pledger are big 12 starters, at least not good enough to win a league but really good bench players so I'd like to see us get a better 2 and a better rebounder/defensive player at the 4. However, I think that lineup if Osby is all that could be pretty good.

41 inch wingspan? Isn't that the wing span of a child. Maybe that was a 41 inch vertical. If not he has arms that are about 18 inches each with 5 inch shoulders.

has to be vertical, at 6'8" and "normal" wing span would be 80-81 inches and it wouldnt be anything to get excited about unless it was over 7 feet

edit, just saw on another thread were capel said its a 40 in vertical and a 7 foot wingspan for osby

And a wingspan of 7'1" - AN 85" WINGSPAN. That is covering some territory.

I'm not sure why Clark wouldn't be a good 2. He can create his own shot and is a pretty tough defender. Seems like he has decent range, too, though maybe not as consistent as you'd like to see.

One of the points that Jeff made with that lineup is just the sheer athleticism and length. He mentioned them being able to "take up more space". I had not thought of that, but it's a great point. When you have taller guys with long arms with hands up or out on defense, there are just fewer angles and less room to work.

Man, with Blair out there as a bigger point guard, that is a pretty sizable lineup. 6'9" (Goff) might be an inch or two shorter than you really want at your 5, but if he is athletic and can defend, that's awfully salty.

I thought same early in the year but now I do believe Fitz and Pledger are good enough to help a team win the league if they keep improving. Fitz has played well at times and Pledger just dropped 38 on the road. Remember they are both soph's. By the time these guys are sr.'s if they keep improving the sky's the limit for the 2. Not many guys get a chance to be 4 yr starters the experience factor is huge.

Good points. Pledger is probably more of a starter than Fitz at this point, but his defense has to continue to improve. Fitz has to work on rebounding and improving his defense, as those are 2 huge holes in his game. Offensively, he's as good as any 4 or 5 in the Sampson era, even Ace McGhee.

so wait, this is two times in a row he is on the animal and doesn't mention joe c? what is the board supposed to think about that?

I wounder what is going on?

We are always going to have to deal with people talking bad about us in recruiting if we are going against the likes of kansas, unc, duke...ect...just something we will have to deal with

It sounded to me like he was saying that the yet-to-be-resolved Gallon issue (not yet resolved, right?) is being used negatively in recruiting. Also that he and the coaches are telling recruits to trust them about it's satisfactory resolution.

That was just my understanding, if that's what you were asking.
