Coale "fires" DeCosta and Thraikill

Trying to diminish Schaefer proves nothing regarding the OU situation.

Did Notre Dame go into the tank after losing their all-world point guard.

Did Baylor go into the tank after losing Griner and that crew.

Has Louisville faded away after upsetting the Griner Baylor team?

You could ask the same question about a lot of teams with top coaches.

Among other things a good coach is good at 1) recruiting/team building 2) x's and o's 3) player development and 4) game management.

How would you rate Sherri in those categories vs the top coaches?

I won't make an assessment. Somebody says she is worth being in the Hall of Fame. I've seen remarks by the best that she her program is the one that college basketball should be about.

I do figure that she took absolutely nothing and turned it into a pretty good team and kept it in the NCAA tournament for nineteen straight years. Been to three Final Fours. How many measure up to Hall of Fame, three Final Fours, nineteen year run in the NCAA tournament.

Been doing something right.

Yes, Syb, 10 years ago she was. A decade ago no one would have even thought of calling for her firing. Even 5 years ago. But when you look at the record and level of play, the warning signs have been there.

2012-13: 21-12
2013-14: 18-15
2014-15: 21-12
2015-16: 22-11
2016-17: 23-10
2017-18: 16-15
2018-19: 8-22 (4-14 in the conference - the most disturbing numbers)

*No real player improvement over the last few years except ViVi and Ana
*Slightly better recruiting last 2 years, but problem kids & average players overall
*No apparent real leadership on the team
*Failed player evaluations via Sherri's vaunted point system? (seems likely)
*No major high school stars even interested in coming here (apparently)?
*Losing out on major targets (likely most of the time, it seems)
*No apparent changes in playing our coaching styles (seems apparent)

So, even if you say it's only two bad years and she could turn it around, I would agree.

BUT what tangible evidence has there been that she's really even tried to do that?

Point to one thing that is significantly better today than it was 3-4 years ago.

You really can't because nothing has gotten better it's gotten to be almost historically worse.

Next year, I doubt the experts or fans expect one thing to really be significantly different -- even if you change coaches. Sherri rules with an absolute iron fist. We all have sources who have told us that. Her assistants just do whatever she says how she says with few questions or suggestions made. That's what I've been told. She might listen or act like she does and just disregards the comments.

She nixes recruiting and signing players on some arbitrary point system or just because she wants to. That clearly isn't working -- and reportedly she does so without uttering a syllable of why to her own staff.

Some of my sources in the athletic department and around the program and university have said that Sherri can be extremely difficult to work with and just goes off on a tangent without notice. That seems uncharacteristic to me, but now I've begun to wonder.

And let's just briefly address this vaunted point system that no one knows a single detail about.

What is it basically? Is it the one and only system she uses for offering a player?
Is there, or has there been, a real evaluation or review in the last 10 years to determine whether the system is a good one? It cleary isn't working.

What is the percentage of hits and misses with its results? What are the categories?

How right has it been about players in the last decade?

Do you get more points if you go to church religiously or you're the same denomination as Sherri? Is the Bible study the team does, or reportedly does, mandatory (that's a big damn no-no legally).

Do those categories weigh more than your shooting ability or your assists and rebounding?

How much does having sex before marriage or tattoos decrease the # of points a player get, if it does?

Is being white worth more points than being black?

Most of those questions seem, and are, outrageous on their face. It's terrible to think that kind of stuff might factor in to a coach's evaluation system.

FTR -- I can't imagine they do. I believe Sherri Coale is a tremendous human being and would never do such things.

But what if that has in the past? What if they have in the last 5 years when Sherri has clearly gotten into the habit of thinking that she is untouchable by this administration and the sport.

Neither Sherri, Joe or the OU administration "owe" fans any explanations. But it would be nice to just be given a glimpse of understanding and reasoning.

Results matter in college sports. Sherri is getting paid a whopping sum for winning basketball games, conference championships, going to the dance and getting to the top of NCAAWBB heap.

Look at her teams' records above. Most are good, but not close to great. We have definitely entered uncharted territory now -- which is really bad.

No one can really say if Sherri is the person to lead this program forward. Does she really think change was needed -- or was she forced to fire Pam and Chad to save her own ass?

Does she really think she doesn't need to revise what she does, the way she recruits and evaluates players, coaches and sets and demands good performance?

Who knows. Sherri has been doing what she likes for so long with no one saying BOO to her, that she seems to just think everyone should kiss her ass and not challenge her.

Well, this week, she got a taste that things are changing.

I know this one thing better than I know anything about basketball. OU's new cost-conscious, firing-minded president and the GOP controlled, ultra-right wing board of regents are definitely not to continue to pay $1.2 million + to a women's basketball coach who wins only 8 games a season for more than another year.

Bank on it. Sorry for the length.

Is any of this verified?

Everybody can argue and fuss with each other all they want the sad truth is SC is still the coach and CC is still there. Nothing is going to change!

The lack of information from the wbb program means that no one knows the inner workings or decisions on recruiting.
And those of us who know something about basketball and attend the games in person have seen a serious drop in the intensity and quality of play for several years now. That is a coaching problem. It is actually better in intensity this year, but lack of experience and height was too big a handicap. Face it OU fans, we have fallen back because of all aspects of coaching, and we need to improve.

Well, the season records are a matter of fact.

My other comments are verified through my sources and friends at OU, past and present, including administration, past and present, athletic department friends, and in the press that I trust and have know for decades. Those are good enough for me.

I know they won't be good enough for you and minuscule number of others here, but it's not like I give a damn if they are or aren't. I'm just telling you what I've been told. I don't care whether you believe it or not.

Of course you've been so wrong for so many years about so much it's hilarious that you have the nerve to even question anyone about anything.

I can verify one of your statement as it comes from one of the principals involved: She nixes recruiting and signing players on some arbitrary point system or just because she wants to. That clearly isn't working -- and reportedly she does so without uttering a syllable of why to her own staff.

That comes straight from one of the horse's mouth.

I have heard those accusations for years. I have seen no verification. The players never say anything.

I have had more direct involvement with parents or relatives of players who tend to become very hostile to message boards. I want to hear from a reputable player some facts on this.

I even see some of these complaints about Gasso, especially in the religion area. I can assure you that if I thought there were any religious activity required, I would dismiss any coach.

There has been too much anti-sentiment for me to give credibility without evidence.

Sherri is on contract until 2021. I think Joe C. is giving her another year to turn things around. Not that I know that much, just guessing. But you have to pay her and given her history, she probably deserves that.

I don’t see it. I would say her style of play just doesn’t work but look at Iowa State. So who knows. She has to find a tall JUCO, just can’t survive anymore with undersized post players in the Big 12 or the NCAA.

I am not sure that Joe dictates who is on their staff or not? I do find it hard to believe that she has kept her son. It is her career though. I really don’t see things changing but who knows?

Typical Syb. Well, you've had your head in the sand for years. Good to know you want to keep it there. I guess it's better than up your own butt.

We all appreciate you admitting this about yourself, 06.

Now that you have confessed about your posting style, how about slowing down the anger and helping the board be about OU WBB instead of about your difficulty with your anger management issues.

But no matter your success with self control, at least thanks for admitting your shortcomings in the past concerning your posting style.

Sweetest, nobody's laughing with you, you're not funny.
Pretty much everyone has agreed with my point about McCowan not being the only reason M.State has gotten to the success that they had. You completely contradicted yourself by taking a stab at me individually instead of focusing on the issue on McCowan. Not even going to address you any further than that.

No reason to try. Nothing can be verified to you unless it concurs with your opinion then no proof is necessary as Syb knows all. We know because you said so.

How do you know the players or their parents never say anything? You don't know any do you?

Well, I do. Additionally, my children went to school with the children of at least five sets of parents who either work, or worked, in the Athletic Department in high positions of authority, or, whose children actually played for Sherri. These include head coaches, assistant athletic directors, players, etc.

Two of my daughters played sports with the child of a former OU football coach and several big-name football players and we spent hours on sport sidelines talking together for more than 4 years.

I've got dozens of professors and OU administration friends in Norman. David Boren and his family both know me and have personally hired me for a number of business and personal projects.

Additionally, I've know several past and present members of the OU Board of Regents over the last nearly 40 years -- personally and professionally. I've shared small talk, meals and talked politics, OU and state and federal government with a number of them. I've invited some of them to speak at OU for special occasions. I've even been drunk with a few.

Now, I know what your response is going to be, but I've worked much of my life in the fields of journalism and politics statewide and nationally and I don't reveal my sources -- especially to a degrading, self-important, asshat like you who thinks they know everything and is the only one who can analyze and forward a thoughtful opinion on anything and everything.

No one here likes you Syb. As far as I can discern, no one ever has. At some point even a self-absorbed, self-important individual who proffers himself as an expert on Sherri Coale, would -- if they were as smart as you think
you are -- get the message and quit coming on this board.

Bible study is not required! Just saying....even though it is a great thing. It 100% is not required.

I never thought it was. Glad to hear that for certain, though.

Basically, an irrelevant post. Who said I didn't know a parent?

I said that none of it has been verified by a source that is unbiased.

Why are you so anti reading the bible and going to church?

You shold try it sometime. If your church was at all effective, it could at least help you clean up your foul language you love posting toward the children that get on this board.

I don't think anyone here has stated they are anti-church or the bible, but the rumor that keeps floating is Sherri requires attending bible study. OU is a public university using public funds. They can't require anyone to go to bible study. Someone posted earlier she doesn't do this and that's great, hope he is correct. But if Sherri encourages bible study and someone has no interest, she can bench them. And we would never know why.
