Crutch

Is it me, or could he have held out for something a little more high profile?

I had the same thought. It strikes me that either he wasn't happy at Arkansas or that he was encouraged to leave before he got fired (for what reason, I couldn't guess). This doesn't seem like the job a guy like him would take.

Probably not..... 13% of coaches in the top 6 conferences are black. Something like this is probably his best chance of becoming a head coach, and then working his way up from there.

Of course, Terry Evans won 70% of his games at UCO and that didn't seem to help him bring into higher levels of basketball. And at the high school level he went 100-11 at Midwest City and 54-3 in back to back seasons at Edmond North.

So basketball is racist right.

Only lets 30% of it's players be white

lol, no, im just saying that the coaches move was statistically his best chance at becoming a head coach.

I am not sure what the head coach at a small college like that makes, but head coaching experience has to be good for your resume. You would think better than being an assistant.

Had a chance to be the head guy, he took it, I think its good.

Does this mean ECU will be tweeting out pics of Buddy and Trae to their recruits?

He will make considerably less $$$ at ECU. Working under LK & Mussleman looks better on a resume imo unless he wins championships at ECU.

Is it less work at that level? Or is it same work (in terms of hours) for less pay?

Less travel because you play & recruit more regionally. I’d say he’d have more work since he’s now the head coach & at a D2 you can’t delegate as much. I’ll guarantee you he’s making less than 1/4th of what he made at Arkansas.

You also have to teach a class or two usually at that level.

I could see Musselman being difficult to work with. Seems like one of those coaches who wants everyone who works for him to be obsessed with basketball 24/7 like most NBA type coaches.

Only other explanation might be that Crutch didn’t land any of the Oklahoma/Texas recruits he was assigned but Hogs still ended up with a top 7 class so not sure that’s it.

Wants to coach his kids.

Makes perfectly good sense to me. Money is not everything in a life-altering decision like Crutch is making. Ada is a great place to raise a family. The people are caring, friendly and loyal to a fault. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. This town is one of the best kept secrets in Oklahoma. Don’t tell anyone! ;)

This article may answer some of the questions about Crutch’s move to ECU.

I graduated from ECU, loved Ada. They are taking some hard budget cuts in sports this year.

BC, we were closer than we realized back then. My wife and I live roughly two blocks from the ECU campus. Our daughter is an ECU grad.

I like this hire! ECU, and Crutch for that matter, could have done worse.

That’s awesome. Yes seems like a great hire, I’m just surprised he made that move. Even though I have nothing to base that on since I’ve never met him.
