Dean Blevins interviews Trae Young

For capel, the year after Blake left, he had a winning percentage of 42%

Right now, for this year, the year after Buddy Kruger's winning percentage is 43%

So Krugers winning percentage is likely to end up much worse than Capel's post blake griffin year.

The difference is the talent is still obviously here! (Doolittle, McGusty & James to a lesser extent) & I forgot Odomes too.

I agree I really like Doolittle, mcgusty, james and odomes.

But I don't think any of them can "carry a team" scoring wise. I think Mcgusty has a shot to turn into this guy.

I really like odomes, but once people start focusing on his driving ability and creates a game plan around his abilities then I think he might struggle some unless he gets some confidence to start shooting threes.

But remember, Capel also had talent the year after Blake left. You could argue Capel had a lot more talent than we have now.

Yeah, let's compare that Capel team with this Kruger team. How many of the Kruger guys have been accused of shoplifting? How many of the Kruger guys did we PAY to come and play here? How many of the Kruger guys will be gone after this season because they think they are NBA material? How many of the Kruger guys have slept with a teammates girlfriend?

The post I quoted is an example of when someone goes full retard, and you never go full retard.

Talent that nobody else recruited but OU. Why is that? Maybe because they were all headcases. Give me solid guys like are on this team any day over that Capel bunch.

Also, this is a 1 year deal. We will be much better next year and we still have a chance to make postseason play with a healthy Woodard. We beat a very good Texas Tech team the other night and we led from wire-to-wire. That was a good solid win over a good team. We have far more potential to have a great season than we did that year which was a huge disaster and led to recruiting the likes of Nick Thompson and Blair (the PG from NOLA). Neither of those guys should have been playing in the Big 12 but Capel had to recruit them because nobody else wanted to play here. We are so far from that you should be ashamed to even make the comparison.

I'm still not sure about all this young talent on the OU team...young yes but far as talent goes that remains to be seen. I watched a few times where in the ku and tech game where guys would go what looked like a foot higher to get rebounds away. Not saying they are bad or anything only time will do that. But when looking at current players on this team look at who else recruiting them..that sometimes give you a fairly decent idea on the talent.

absolutely not. The kid is going to school less than 40 miles from the University.

Everyone loved Capel when Blake Griffin was here. We won a lot of games and it was fun to watch.
Ultimately Capel could not figure out how to win once Blake left

the same goes for Kruger (although its a small sample set). Kruger did great with Buddy, won a lot of games and was fun to watch.
Kruger hasn't proven he can win without buddy (time will tell). This year (first year after buddy) Kruger in my opinion has not done a great job and the product on the floor has been terrible as a whole.

I think Trae can turn that around. That's why I think he is a must get.

Now, maybe we have another player on the team, or currently signed to come in, that can be that "trae young or buddy" player.

sorry man but the difference in capel and kruger is night and day. and the two situations are night and day

This is absolutely one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this board. The guy's taken 5 teams to the tournament, most of whom didn't have Buddy Hield. He's been to the Final 4 both with and without Hield. Hield became a superstar under Kruger's tutelage and if you think the coach had nothing to do with that then you're absolutely out of your mind.

What's probably most preposterous about this entire thing is that you seem to want Kruger to take all the blame for the team's struggles this year but you don't want him to have any of the credit for Buddy's or the teams successes the last few years.

Sometimes yes but sometimes no....That's like saying a guy might be good but he might not be....I think we all agree that Frank Mason and Devonte Graham are two of the best guards in not only the league but in the nation (unfortunately they play at KU) and the following was said about them when they announced the signings for KU:

Mason- "Mason, who is ranked No. 131 in his class by Rivals.com, said he chose KU over Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Providence, Seton Hall and Rutgers. Mason originally committed to Towson his senior year at Petersburg (Va.) High School but reopened his recruitment after not qualifying academically, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch."

Graham- “Yes, it was,” he said of playing time being a pivotal factor in his choosing KU over the Wolfpack. He also had Providence, Virginia and Virginia Tech on his list since being released from his letter of intent to Appalachian State on April 10."

Had OU signed either of these guys we all know some would have blown up about them signing guys that formerly committed to Towson and App St.... hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20. As usual, we won't know how guys we've signed and not signed for that matter will be until 2-3 years minimum down the road.

The sad part is, no matter what happens with this current team barring them blowing up and winning 12 games in a row and getting in the tournament, people will destroy them and their talent for not living up to the hype we all created anyway.

Besides the w/l record, I honestly think this team is right about where some of us thought they would be. As discussed on other discussions, there were some meltdowns, close losses, Woodard's injury that have all contributed to the 7-9 start which EASILY could be 11-5 and no one would really have too much to complain about.

I think we have 2-3 more Big 12 wins if we have Woodard. 2 for sure. This team has a bright future. Just like Buddy and crews class did.

Great post

Great post, Maverick! Thanks for the reality check. I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to applying unreasonable expectations to last year's high school seniors and second year players who really didn't prove anything in their limited time on the court last year. I knew better, but did it anyway.

While I can't help but be disappointed with three or four of our losses, at least two due to Jordan's absence, there have also been positives. This is a very young team. That's not an excuse, it's a fact. Eight of our twelve scholarship players are freshmen and sophomores. Good or bad they have all been part of the experience this season, and most have played well. That alone gives me hope that this group of youngsters will return next year better prepared to perform at a higher level, just as Rashard Odomes has done.

I still believe the future is bright for OU's basketball program, even if we don't sign Trae Young.

That is part of my point...Kansas did recruit them

Read this and tell me if you still want to stand behind the comment that they 'recruited' them... people don't want to admit or believe it but even the bluebloods have to go with fallback options sometimes and luckily enough it actually worked for KU in this instance not just with one but two guys of all things. Some programs just seem to be charmed like that but definitely with Mason and with Graham to an extent as well they were not going after him at all until they had to. Shep could be a similar story for OU someday.

I think decision comes in the next week maybe 2. Sadly I think KU wins out. Hope Im wrong.

That's not what I like to hear. You were one of the few still holding out hope that OU was in a pretty good spot. This based on something you've heard? Or gut feeling just taking a turn?

Sadly from what I've heard. 3-4 different people have told me all the same info.

I'm at the point where my response to that news is: Whatever! I think I may speak for a lot of OU fans who are sick of the drama and want to see it end.

I went on record several months ago in expressing my opinion that Lon should sign the best point guard available in November, and let the chips fall where they may. He didn't do that, and now he's in the same position Capel found himself in when he put all of his eggs in one basket, more than once I might add.

I'm sure our coaches will find an adequate replacement. It's also possible our point guard of the future is already on our roster. If Young picks KU, as expected, that will prove two things: High profile recruits who can pick any school they want can't be trusted. You darned sure can't trust 247 Sport's "crystal ball." Their so-called "experts" have been clueless from the get go. First, it's U.K. All the way. Then it's OU in the lead. KU was barely on the radar back then. Now, the Jayhawks are trending. Go figure! :facepalm

So what are our options at this point for another point guard recruit?

There is not one shred of credible info regarding Trae Young on this board or from that crystal ball or gleamed from the forehead of any traveling gypsy. It is a plague. Get over it, guys. GET OVER IT!

We have people who stop by here from time to time with what they claim is credible recruiting info. Time after time it has been disproven. Get over it!

To make matters worse, those who actually DID provide credible recruiting info were run off the board by the mouthbreathers. My kingdom for insight from ouleopard.

Life is better when you don't follow recruiting.
