Dean Blevins interviews Trae Young

There is not one shred of credible info regarding Trae Young on this board or from that crystal ball or gleamed from the forehead of any traveling gypsy. It is a plague. Get over it, guys. GET OVER IT!

We have people who stop by here from time to time with what they claim is credible recruiting info. Time after time it has been disproven. Get over it!

To make matters worse, those who actually DID provide credible recruiting info were run off the board by the mouthbreathers. My kingdom for insight from ouleopard.

Life is better when you don't follow recruiting.

I agree. if Trae chooses to go to KU, that's fine. Honestly, as much as I would like for him to choose OU, do we really need a 1 year player at a crucial spot like PG?

Did you see us without Woodard...? Pg spot is quite important.

I agree the PG position is important. But the experience Woodard brings to the team now is even more important. Take a look at his stats his freshman and sophomore seasons when he averaged 10 ppg and shot 35% and 37% from three respectively.

My point is that our point guard next year, even if it's Strong or Shepherd, will improve with experience. Maybe one of our combo guards will work on his handles in the off season and develop into another Isaiah Cousins. Just sayin'...

Point guard is critical in this league where so many teams play man defense.

They have a big responsibility to run the offense.

Hard to say what OU has in Strong-Moore or Shepherd at this point.

This should shatter the narrative that only bluebloods can get top recruits. Texas does it all the time! And our BBall tradition is at least on par if not better than theirs..
As a matter of fact, our tradition and results are a ****load better than theirs. It's no contest.

Texas always seems to sign one or two top rated guys.....even in basketball.

This.

Not. Even. Close.

Man, do I wish some of our fans had a better grasp of the tradition of Sooner hoops.

The numbers prove what you're saying in spades. OU holds a 53 to 36 advantage over UT since the series began. The Sooners have also won 6 of the last 10 and 5 of the last 6. I wont be surprised if we add two more games to our dominance this season.

So true, Ada. Still, the "mouthbreathers," as so aptly described by 04 (LOL) continue to slobber over that great UT recruiting narrative.

When will some learn that the great coaching that OU traditionally brings to the table trumps that "great" recruiting of that school south of the Red River?

Texas always gets talent from in-state which is not surprising. It's no different than OU getting the Waymans, BG's, Websters, Humphrey's, etc.

I agree but would we be better off with just a 1 year player? Where are we the year after he leaves? That's my point.

I'm no NBA scout or anything, but I believe, mainly because of his size, there's a good chance he would be here longer than 1 year. But even if he's good enough to leave after one year then I believe it still matters. Obviously, things aren't great right now, but next year we will have almost a whole team of returning players that just got a lot of experience. I think a difference making PG would be huge, one and done or not.

No way Trae goes one and done. Where are people getting that? Hes way too short and small. That's why imo he's such a great prospect and a must get.

Let's quit acting like he's gone until the news drops. No reason to get all butt hurt about the "drama". What drama? Dude has just been trying to make the best decision for himself.. how is that drama?

Good luck Trae! Don't choose the gayhawks! Don't be a jeremy case, when you could be a Blake griffin!

I know I am extremely biased, as we all are as sooner fans, but I still feel we have an incredible shot landing him (trae). As I listened to his interview today on sportstalk 1400. He kept repeating similar things about him wanting to be the a huge contributor and feel needed on a team. I believe he said it 4-5 times. When I look at Kansas' roster next year:
Guards:
Devonte' Graham
Malik Newman
Lagerald Vick
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
Marcus Garrett
Sam Cunliffe (second semester)
Forwards:
Carlton Bragg
Udoka Azubuike
Billy Preston
Mitch Lightfoot
Dwight Coleby

That seems hard to get great playing time and make a huge impact. Most of those guys would be starting on most teams in the country and almost all were top 100 recruits at one time. I understand they are always good (kansas), it would be amazing to play at Allen Fieldhouse, and we haven't been able to put more in the win column, but is that worth more than not playing more than 15 min a game? That is a pure assumption on playing time, but with a crowded roster it will be tough to get more. I would hate for him to get Cliff Alexander minutes (15) because he can't break through or get a rhythm going. Cliff Alexander was buried behind Perry Ellis, Landon Lucas, and Traylor. And remember, he was the number 3 recruit and projected top 5 pick (which trae is neither).

Final thought: we have seen how long it takes for a majority of freshman to grow in the college game and it really takes those guys playing a ton of minutes to allow themselves to mature (kam mcgusty). What a better place than OU to do so with the young talent around him.

I really think he sees this and will pick OU for it. If I have to assume his thinking it is this: OU is the logical choice (but not filling seats hurts us), Kansas is a true blue blood dream. But I believe he ultimately has to choose us because it will be the best for his (hopefully long) career.

I agree they have a crowded roster. But they play two point guards, essentially, and honestly there are no true PGs on that roster (I believe most are combo guards). Now, I'm sure they'll sell him on coming in and taking Franks spot right away. But Bill Selfs track record with playing true freshman is up and down... sometimes guys like Josh Jackson come along, but look at Carlton Bragg; you have to think he was thinking of you're gonna start from day one... if playing time is the most important thing, I can see how they sell him on it, and I can see how it's a sales job and not a guarantee.

I just feel like if Trae really wanted to come here he woulda comitted long ago... the fact that he's stringing us along or riding it out is not good news for us...

If we don't land Trae what are our options?
Also, what about a grad transfer?

Agree with those saying Trae is not one and done. He probably weighs 150 right now. If he were an incredible jumper or speed demon, I would say that doesn't matter, but he's not either of those things.

If he goes into the league, it's going to be similar to Chris Paul or Steph Curry ... he'll need some time to gain some strength and refine his floor game.
