Dildy to Duke

So you asked an assistant coach if Moser calls a play in the huddle then forgets it?

That would be a strange question.

The poster making these claims has had solid information in the past. I'll leave it at that.

Read the whole thread.

Keep up.

Dont think this poster has in the Current staff.

Haha no he hasn’t. He’s one of the bigger trolls on the site.

Paul Jesperson is a serious candidate for the opening per TrillyDonovan on twitter. Currently in a player development role for the Atlanta Hawks.

I think he may come as head of player development.

He’s taken the job according to twitter!

Thanks, Coach.

That would be huge imo. He knows the system and players already.

It would also throw a massive wrench in the theory that assistants hate working for Moser. This would be the 2nd coach to come back and coach under Porter for a 2nd time (Dildy and Custer) in just the last few years.

He must really like working for a boss who won't listen to him

Custer seems like a guy that should stick around a while (assuming Moser rights the ship). Akin to Sampson hiring Quannas or Hollis. Not overwhelming but I support it.

If he’s being hired for a coaching position he wants, maybe he will. In his first stop at OU he was the team’s director of video and player development (whatever that means). He was Moser’s point guard at Loyola Chicago, so he certainly knows what to expect from him. He left and now he’s reportedly coming back, so that seems to suggest Moser may not be as bad as some would have us believe. We’ll see soon enough, I suppose.

For the record, I’m still not completely sold on Porter. I try not to buy into all of the negatives about him. But I want him to get one more shot at proving himself, free of the burdens some here attempt to lay on him. If he can’t cut it, we’ll know that by season’s end. This team is 100% Porter Moser’s creation!

I am good with the hire. He has to know the system and head coach very well by now and is familiar with OU too. We need that at this point, continuity. Usually I would like a coach that has been under more than one system to gain new perspectives, but for right now this is good.

Original staff: Patrick, Turner, Dildy

Current staff: Humphrey, Gates, Custer

Make of that what you will.

Patrick current head coach
Turner current head coach (left for Kentucky)
Dildy left for Duke

Make of that what you will

You are grasping at straws to make this point. Every one of those examples was a step up.

I assume you spent your entire career at the same entry level job? Ever take a promotion or a step to better your career?

Choose his record here, etc if you want but assistants getting better jobs isn't the hill to die on dude.

You are dumber than a box of rocks.

My point wasn't the turnover, it was the reputation of those first three vs the reputation of the current 3. One group is not like the other. I'm sure you will disagree. I'd bet on it.

As for my job? No, I don't shop myself to the highest bidder. I've been in the same industry since I got out of college. Yes, I've moved up. Yes, I've changed companies for a variety of reason. But I could absolutely do the same thing I do now, for somebody else, and make more money. Not that ANY of that had anything to do with my point.

But keep jumping out of your pants to disagree with me every time I post something. It's comical at this point.

I know a certain poster is lurking just dying to give his 2 cents...

I know WT leans pessimistic on here, but I do agree with part of this.

That part is, recruiting. Dildy was a HUGE loss, IMO. Going from him to Custer is a bit concerning. Gates seems to be solid in his recruiting efforts/connections and Humphrey has tenure, but where did our Texas pipeline go?

I am not faulting guys taking better gigs and opportunities, but our staff is not what it was before and we need to keep improving to make the Dance.

Moser - Chicago ties
Custer - Chicago ties (2nd year as an assistant)
Gates - Chicago ties (2 yrs Kent st, 1 yr TCU, 2 yrs Loy-Chi, 5 yrs NW, 4 yrs Neb, 1 yr Oregon)
Humphrey - 6 yrs ND/2 yrs OU. (Humphrey was the lead on TO Barrett)

It does concern me a bit, as a Moser supporter. That being said, Moser seems to be doing JUST FINE in recruiting.

(this is my opinion, others with better ties, feel free to correct me)

Porter pulled the plug on TO Barrett. No one was sad to see him leave Edmond north either.
To left team griffin because he didn’t want to play with Dayton. Dayton is a better pg.

Staff is younger for sure. Of course concerns. Less experienced. Dildy a huge loss. Duke knows.
All know the grind. Gates hump experienced enough. Custer a worker. Played in final 4. Can speak to that.

If they can bring in high level and respected player development guy. It’ll go a long way.

I disagree with you because you try to state, as fact, stuff that you literally know nothing about. You think because you watch sports you know exactly what the coaching industry is about.

You tell me I'm dumb when I point out those guys leave to further their careers?

Custer is the only one of those three that doesn't have a good resume and he is a young, hungry guy with plenty of familiarity with how Moser's system works and the staff. Exactly what you like from a third assistant. He isn't there to add a lot to the Xs and Os...no third assistant is.

I get you aren't happy with OU hoops and Moser. Everyone does. You literally ***** about every single thing that happens...good or bad. No one can give you any background about how the coaching world works because you think you know it all already.

Really appreciate this feedback and info. Thanks Coach
