Guys/Gals - we have a good ball club, not great, yet but good. What was so disappointing in this game was the - crowd. Why in the world are people not putting their butts in the seats?:facepalm

I live 500 miles away and I make at least two games a year, both the mens and womens so why is it those people who live just down the street can't get to the game.

You want a great basketball team, become great basketball fans!:OU-logo:

It's either the fans just don't care, don't like basketball or the arena is just a horror show and people don't want to watch a game their anymore

11am start and students still not back. As OU continues to get better and bigger games are played there, it will get better.

There were 11,100 tickets sold and about 6,700 showed up. So the arena was almost sold out. Students still on break hurts some but the people that paid for the tickets need to show or give those tickets to someone who will use them.

I'll tell you what part of the problem is. I work for a large energy company in Tulsa. My company has 8 season tickets in a very prime location and they rarely get used!! I go to as many as I can, but I started to wonder how many other of those donor/sponsor prime seats that you see vacant during games on TV are going unused??

Majority of the bottom rows!

Trying to move up the football ticket waiting list.....

Post on the board when they are not being used, I bet they can be sold/used especially if they are prime.

In comparison to the last few years this was a good crowd. From being at the game I thought it looked 3/4 full. Also remember that this game is not a traditional big game. It was Iowa state. They are doing well this year, but its not Kansas or osu. Those 2 are more then likely the only true sell outs we have a chance for. Even osu with there high ranked team are not selling out. Its just not going to happen.

Agree. Post them on here. Tell your company you'll take them every game they aren't being used and post them here!

Why do OU fans say things like this. Traditionally, ISU is every bit the opponent that OSU is. Our winning percentage against he schools is identical. It was a big game and for the most part it is always a big game.

I'm in LE5 row 6 right behind the ou bench. The last 2 games there have been 6-10 open seats in my row. This is for KU and undefeAted Iowa state. It's pathetic...

In my opinion, it begins with the students. Somehow, someway, basketball needs to become “cool” to OU students. The students are the most energetic fans. The more students at the game, then the more fun it is for everyone else to attend the game.

If you watch a Kansas State game on TV during Christmas break (when school is out), the arena is packed with students and fans. Basketball is IMPORTANT at K-State. It is a big deal. It is “cool.” The fact that “school is out” does not prevent large crowds at their games.

I think attendance at the LNC will improve as the OU team improves. OU has a long BASKETBALL HISTORY with teams like Iowa State. If OU has a really good team, then every home CONFERENCE game should draw at least 9,000 fans.

The best things we can do as individuals are (1) go to the games ourselves, (2) talk positive about the games to our friends and neighbors, and (3) take a friend or family member to the game. It was a lot of fun to be at the LNC yesterday morning! Come join in the fun!

Because it's not always a big game...
OSU is a bigger game because it's an in-state team. Everybody that attends has a friend that goes to OSU, or a coworker that went to OSU, or a family member that roots for OSU.
It's not even close to Iowa State.

Texas Tech has a better all time winning percentage against us in football than OSU does. That doesn't mean Texas Tech is a bigger game.

I think it's to each their own. For instance, I couldn't care less about OSU. Of course, i'd like to beat them, because it's a game on our schedule every year. Living in Texas, i'd much rather beat all the Texas teams. I hate UT but also can't stand Tech, because of their inferior complex-hater fans. I attended A&M and have many UT friends. Even though more Horns consider OU a bigger rivalry, there are some who hate A&M more... So, beauty(or ugly) is definitely in the eye of the beholder. That being said, I understand JBaker's point. But as crazy as this sounds, even though ISU was top 10, I enjoyed our win over UT much more. I'm glad we got the Q win over the 'clones, but i'd rather beat Texas even if they are #331. That's just my outlook. That's why we better not cough up our home game with them!

Sure we know people that went to OSU but it is close. In fact it is identical. OU wins 58% of the time against both programs.

Regardless of what you say or perceive the fact of the matter is ISU is a big game. OU played a top 10, undefeated team and you want to dismiss it as not being as big a game as OSU. It is absurd for a true basketball fan to say something like that. We will never solve our attendance problem when our best fans support silly notions like playing OSU is per se a bigger game than the highest ranked team in the conference.

[Disclaimer: I've been going to OU games since I was in utero during the '81-82 season. My views are skewed and more than a little biased since I value OU Hoops more than Sooner football.]

I've got a few thoughts on fan malaise.

1. Ticket prices are much too high. The regular fan has been priced out of the season ticket holder experience. It's 500 bucks a seat to grab a spot on the lower east side, and that prices out anybody but the biggest of donors and opens the door for corporations. Those entities don't really go all out to get butts in the seats, so they end up giving their tickets away only to the biggest of games....and even then it's to fans of opposing teams. I'm looking at you, Jackie Cooper. I'm looking at you, Greg Price.

2. Students today are just lazy. They'd rather sit in their dorm room and download midget pornography than get out to a BBall or football game. Don't believe me? When was the last time you saw any student section full? Heck, at BBall games they've cut the section down from 14 sections in my youth to a paltry five today. Guess what, they STILL don't fill it.

3. Lack of success has hurt a bunch. Since our conference championship team of 2005 we've provided a decade of fans with four NCAA Tournament wins and three Big 12 Tournament wins. Meh is the word of the day, and when uttered with an uncaring shrug it defines the casual Sooner hoops fan's perspective.

4. The Thunder. More people on the streets of Norman could tell you the name of the Thunder's backup PG than OUr backup PG. They're rolling up there, obviously, but their success has definitely siphoned off would be supporters of our hoops team.

5. This isn't a problem, more of an observation. There is nothing wrong with the Lloyd Noble Center. The fan experience is fine, the scoreboard is amazing, the sight lines are fantastic, and the food options are ample. Anybody who won't go to games because of the LNC is either a frontrunner or an oaf. Tickets are plentiful, all you have to do is get in the car and go. Me and my family have spent a lifetime doing just that from ARDMORE.

I'm with Sooner Traveler. Go to the games, bring a friend, and cheer loud. The product is good, and getting better all the time. It's just shocking to me that an undefeated team ranked in the top ten can come to Norman on a Saturday in January and be greeted by 6,000 Sooner fans. That's just nuts, and a FAR cry from the way things were not too very long ago.

I hope it can change. Maybe someday.....

I did not claim or meant to claim ISU is not a big game for true basketball fans. It definitely was a good game. No matter how good ISU is it will never equal a win against Kansas or OSU to a good portion of Basketball fans/attendees. I sit in in the lower section next to the students. Almost every week there are different people sitting around us even though these are supposed to be season tickets. Its just the way its going to be. And as you talk about KSU. I have a KSU friend who has gone to several games including OS/ksu and just walks up to the ticket office and buys tickets before the game starts. They are not selling out.
