Does anyone else find this hugely ironic?

Tigers work to save thinning conference

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri curators met behind closed doors Sunday night for the fourth time in as many days as the school turns its attention to saving the Big 12 Conference after its apparent bid to join the Big Ten failed.

The meeting followed two days of discussions in Columbia amid a shifting landscape that saw fellow Big 12 members Colorado and Nebraska bolt for the Pac-10 and Big Ten, respectively.

Missouri was considered one of the top prospects for an expanded Big Ten, and the school could still wind up there as conference realignment continues to unfold.

For now, school officials are publicly pledging their loyalty to a 10-team Big 12 -- even as their counterparts in Texas and Oklahoma prepare for their own private meetings this week that could result in an exodus from the conference, with as many as five Big 12 teams possibly headed to the Pac-10.

Chancellor Brady Deaton told alumni in an e-mail he "will do everything possible to assure the success of the conference." He offered similar assurances Sunday night at a crowded news briefing on the steps of University Hall after the one-hour curator meeting, which resulted in no action.

Yeah, I think Mizzou is really, really stupid.... JMO. lol

I think Mizzou's responsibility in all this is far overblown.

It's no secret that a lot of people at Mizzou would have loved to join the Big 10... it's been a topic of discussion for Mizzou fans for as long as I can remember (I think going back to the last time they expanded, so about 20 years).

That said... would you blame your wife for marital issues and a potential divorce because she said she thought Brad Pitt was way hotter than you were? Any school in the north preferring the Big 10 is a no brainer.

The Big 12 was a flawed conference. Mizzou (and Nebraska just as much, if not more) complained about those flaws over the years. The Big 10 announced publicly they would expand and Mizzou, as a university in a relatively large state (compared to other midwestern states without a Big 10 team) that had known issues with its current conference was a logical possibility. Every single person in the state could have remained 100% silent on the issue, or even been vocally supportive of the Big 12 (as Mike Alden was the entire time), and Mizzou STILL would've been in all the articles written about potential expansion.

I really don't understand why Mizzou's getting the blame when two other teams actually left the conference. Tom Osborne has been just as critical about his dissatisfaction with the Big 12 over the years and they jumped on the Big 10 offer as soon as they could (which Mizzou would've done, too... but so would any school in the north IMO). Colorado's been in love with the idea of being in the Pac 10 forever, and they also jumped on an offer immediately.

I guess it ultimately doesn't matter, as it looks like everyone (or almost everyone... ISU, Baylor and ksu being the only with major worries) is going to end up happy... either the Pac 10/Big 10/SEC take on several teams (leaving just a few remaining) or the Big 12 goes to a 10 team conference with a much improved TV deal.

I would blame my wife if she were talking about Brad Pitt non-stop, publicly begging for him, and publicly disparaging and ridiculing me in order to describe Brad's attractiveness, just as Missouri has done to the Big 12:

“When you compare Oklahoma State to Northwestern, when you compare Texas Tech to Wisconsin, I mean, you begin looking at educational possibilities that are worth looking at.”

Missouri's elitist attitude has contributed to the instability of the Big 12 as much any other school.

That's more akin to your wife's sister publicly begging/disparaging. Jay Nixon has absolutely no influence over any conference move Mizzou could make.

And if it were truly non-stop, there would be more than that one quote people kept going back to.

Missouri's "elitist" attitude (funny when you consider some of the egos in, or that were in, the Big 12) was far, far down the list of factors holding back the Big 12 as a legitimate competitor with the Big 10 and SEC.

I'm glad Sawyer is around. He makes me seem like less of a homer.
Mizzou has the entire conference and fans hating them. I find that very pleasing.

You can hate whoever you want for whatever reason you want, no matter how misplaced it may be.
