Downward trend

I seriously doubt that Gasso likes it either. It is reality to admit it. It is a part of coaching, but a part that has lost its perspective. You are chasing all over the country for kids who have no idea what is in their best interest. A lot of them want something. Nearly every major rules violation has something to do with recruiting.

I know it is not an attractive part of coaching. However, if you admit that you do not like it, when you are losing, it is easy to jump on that statement. After a few years, airports, hotels, spoiled kids, helicopter parents, etc. would get old. Especially, if you have small children at home.

So. Who jumps on it---people on message boards that have no relevance? Is there not something better that could be said or done? I guess that you can complain and find the attention that you craved as a spoiled child by whining on a message board. It might be more useful to participate in something that might enhance the program---assuming that you are a fan. Go to a bar. Buy everyone a drink on the OU women's basketball program. Do something to get attention for the program instead of deleterious to it.

I'll tell you what I think is really dumb---dumb beyond normal stupidity. When someone who maybe played a little highschool football questions a highly-successful college coach as to whether she teaches things like ball control or defense or about any other fundamental----as though a successful coach couldn't write a book about each subject.

Who are the ones on message boards that have no relevance? I think it is the ones that do not agree with you.

Norm,

Please stay active on the board, no matter what SK, Tycat or Syb say or think.

Two years ago those posters couldn't kiss Sherri's butt enough and they rarely said anything NOT positive about a player.

By the end of last season they started acknowledging problems with players, coaches and the program.

This year, even Syb has started to admit things are seriously amiss. Heck, he's even called for Kay-Kay to be benched and has been negative to some others. He even admits there's something not right with the staff -- as almost everyone but them has been saying that for about 3 years.

Whether it is her administration of the program, recruiting of players, discipline, playing favorites, being stubborn, coaching, substituting, communication with recruits and their families or whatever...

The bottom line is Sherri is not getting the job done to the level OU and fans deserve. The level SHE established.

Again, I don't want Sherri fired. I want her to do the job at the level she's achieved previously.

If anyone leaves this board, it should be Syb, TyCat or anyone else who doesn't like opinion and free discussions.

Keep up the good work, Norm.

I should have included this:

I don't want anyone to leave the board. I like it here.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

After giving it some thought, I have decided to take a break from this board. I have always believed in everyone being allowed to post their honest opinions. I am now very aware that some do not want to hear honest opinions, rather they want to only read comments they agree with. Since I have never wanted to be disruptive, it is best for me to head to the locker room.

Merry Christmas to everyone. Boomer Sooner!

Merry Xmas to you Norm. Wish you wouldn't take off. Will really miss your objectivity about the program.

Norm,

You do a terrific job on this board. I lurk a lot and you are spot on in your assessments way more than not. You also do a great job coming up with interesting topics.

Wish you would do this on the men's board - I know you would get a lot less resistance with those types of topics over there.

The 35TangoTango crowd over here makes me uncomforable to post often.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Really Bay? You are there all the time?

Just for fun I looked back at all the games that we won plus the Kentucky game where we played well. Guess what? No Sooner Bay in evidence. Also a post about the better recruits who have committed for the future (Mulkey, Dunjee, Llanusa). Again no Sooner Bay to acknowledge that we may have some good players coming in.

No your posts are always negative about the program, about Sherri and the quality of OU players. Posters without balance lose their credibility. You are clearly absent in any thread that is in any way positive.

We are not doing well this year so now you have a great forum.

I don't think I've ever read that on this board and it's something I haven't really thought about. It is very interesting and something that initially makes me say "no, can't be" then after reading it again go, hummmm, is it possible he's right? Several have mentioned that players don't block out well, they don't move well without the ball, etc etc regardless of what Sherri wants them to do. If you are right, are the shortcomings on the court related to your theory? Also, if you are right, the most important question is, why. Why do players give everything for Patty but not for Sherri? I know some will be offended at the very thought that you even raised the issue but, it is a valid point to be discussed.

I hope many voice their opinions.

It is grit and it is toughness and it is a hunger. Patty's teams fight through adversity. Of course, I fully admit that Patty recruits better than Sherri, however, there is a precision and toughness that goes with it.

Here is a Patty quote after losing to Oregon in the World Series 4-2 last year.
"These guys will not quit. They will never quit. As long as you're wearing a Sooner uniform, you will not be allowed to quit."

The full transcript is here.

Go read the quotes of the incoming class that is ranked #1. Almost to the person, they say they come to OU to play for Gasso to win the national championship.

The irony is that it is not just the current players but it is the former players. If you ever go to an NCAA game at Marita Hynes Field - it is like a reunion - they are there. Shults and Gascoigne are still around. Ricketts is playing all over the world but still hangs with the coaching staff.

As one of those who does't post often but reads this board DAILY, I do think some of the posts come across as very negative. While my expectations for this year have been met with a little dissappointment, I try to keep in mind how young this team really is and how tough a schedule we have had...part of that tough schedule is being away from home court for so long. I think the flashes of being a really good ball team give me hope for the future. And not sure why some seem so down on the recruiting when we have some really good and highly rated committs coming in down the road. This year may not turn out as good as we had all hoped but with only 2 SRS. and 2 Jrs. on the team, I am willing to wait and see how good we become down the road. I still have high hopes and expectations, if not this year, in the next couple....so call me a sunshine pumper or whatever. While I don't agree with everything Sherri does and am dissappointed with results this year so far, she has proven how good a coach she is and I have faith...Halleluh....LOL.

I realize the weather is rainy in NC right now, but there MUST be a thick fog lingering as well. I ask you, “Really?”

I’ve scanned this page… http://espn.go.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2015 … 2015 rankings and Oklahoma is no where to be found, but schools like Missouri, Purdue and Butler managed to make the top 100 recruit list for 2015. Really? And there are still three who have not signed/committed but I doubt OU is in the hunt.

Ok…2016. We have 21 and 27, Mulkey and Dungee, respectively, both four stars. Mulkey is a 6’9 NGriffin… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR2uRc54SrI and Dungee… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXnkb26mNDA …ok, Boomer Sooner. Yea team! I’m excited. And you want me to jump for joy? I thought I’d slept over some breaking news. And 2017…Lianusa. I always question the NCAA/sports/recruiting IQ of parents that allow their children to commit early. I don’t consider it a wise decision. Too many unknowns (i.e. roster, coaching staff, etc). ANYTHING can happen. What’s the rush? The current team is barely going to make it to the dance if at all, adding 21 and 27 with no big game college experience lands us in the same place in the spring of 2017 (maybe a dance…probably not). And then you think Lianusa will be the anchor for resurrection? Not unless Megan Walker (#1 2017) is her twin sister and we allow Carolyn Winchester’s cousin (if she has one) to walk-on. She will end up as frustrated as Vegas (where is she these days?); doing the best she can, but it won’t be enough to resurrect the program without experienced help. I’m sure they are all wonderful young ladies, great students and the such, but a NC (“The goal every year…” per SC) ain’t gonna happen. Not even close with this crew of COACHES and players. It’s called a team for a reason.

I’m sorry and I apologize. I should have recommitted my full belief in the program when we scored 100+ versus…Southeastern Oklahoma State. Or when Plum scored 45 IN NORMAN. Or when we beat powerhouses North Texas, Bradley, Illinois and Lamar. Really?

Since you are referring to this season, no I’ve done more reading than replying. I’m passionate about some things (recruiting, building/maintaining a legacy, winning it all…a NC) and not every little thing that crops up on the message board. I don’t have to comment on everything. So forgive me!

Again, my point has always been that the SC led program faltered when SHE did not continue a good thing. It disappoints me and I’m not shy about saying so. Again, forgive my opinion.

Bay, I've had it. At one time, I valued your posts. Now, they are just bitterness. I told you before that your posts read like those of someone who has a personal problem with something rather than an objective vantage point. You aren't even able to celebrate victories of any kind in your bitterness. I'm sorry, but I am finally putting you on Ignore, which I hate to do. I tend to save that for those who come over from the men's board to complain as though they knew better because they are men, Sherri being only a woman.

That video you posted isn't of Dungee. This is a young team, Maybe we will develop, but other Ortiz, Louis, and Treecee, there isn't a lot of upside, We will have 2 new players next season Penzo and Odimgbe, so maybe they will bring something new to the team. For 2016 unless we sign Cox or Homles then Dugnee not Mulkey will make a bigger impact on our team. I'll get slammed for this but I haven't seen many players develop at OU. I know people named Abi and Ashley Paris, but they lost weight not much more... Ny Stevenson really did come a long way and became a great 3point shooter, but that's the only player I can think of. D rob was a stud from day one I think she drooped 14 points in her 2nd college game vs Tennessee. I think she really got better under Dan and the Stars organization.

I remember DRob as a very erratic freshman with no ability to shoot from beyond three feet. She was confined to layups. She shot about 67% from the free throw line. As she developed, she had more control over the flow of the game, developed a rather nice fifteen-foot jump shot, and learned to shoot in the 90% range for free throws. She was all talent and no place to go as a freshman. She became pretty solid in all aspects of the game except that she never learned the three. Still can't. I think she has developed further in the pros, but, ironically, I don't know that she has as much control over the games. She is recognized as a star, but, when I have seen them, they have a lot of 'stars" rather than go through her. She may actually be better this year with the other guard gone.

Ny was all talent and no basketball. I was rather surprised at how she developed. I thought an athlete would learn to play defense first. She learned long distance shooting first. I don't know that she ever did learn defense.

I thought Jo and Carlee were excellent examples of people who learned a role for themselves at OU.

Salute! I will not apologize for expecting the best POSSIBLE as a fan. OU WBB/SC could have done a better job overall the past 10 years. I've only expected the goals as stated by SC...a NC each year! We have to at least get close and do the things required to get close, with consistency.

I wouldn't know Dungee from anyone else...the youtube said it was her. On the other point...add CParis to the list of undeveloped players along with every post player in the past 12-15 years. If there was improvement, it was because they were mediocre at best (at a high school level) and any experience at the college level will help a player to improve. CParis, AParis, AThompson, AOlajuwon...should have improved not only with fundamentals and skills, but also in diversification as a post player. The game changed/improved; they didn't. Amazing what was accomplished without a real coach to teach.
