It has been reported that OU will participate in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii December 22nd thru 25th. One side of the bracket pits OU-Washington State & Northern Iowa-Hawaii. The other side is BYU-Harvard & Auburn-New Mexico. Interesting bracket with no real powerhouse ( possibly Northern Iowa ? ) standing in our way of winning the whole thing, but I could see up to 6 teams from this tourney in the Big Dance. Everyone's thoughts on how we match up in the thing ? http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...96758/orlando-classic-field-november-revealed

I like events like this for the following reasons:

  • Tournament experience
  • Play quality, but not elite, opponents
  • Team gets a chance to go to Hawaii
  • Chance to win a tournament

Agree on all points, I like the parity in this tourney and even though Northern Iowa is pretty highly regarded...they are still a mid-major that I think will be tough but ultimately we would beat and it would go down as a nice win on our resume come NCAA time.

Well UNI will be a different team to start the season, since their conference player of the year Seth Tuttle has graduated. They will certainly be good, but will be finding their way of guys to step up and be the next crew.

Kelvin always made a good point that these type of trips were really good bonding situations for the team.
