EJ to the portal

If he was surrounded by skilled players and shooters, that would automatically make him something other than a go-to guy. And having better teammates wouldn’t suddenly make him a competent ball handler or good shooter himself. I’ve said many times I value his defense and toughness, but I just have a hard time seeing why so many fans can’t see that he is a very limited offensive player. Dude has played four years … we know what he is at this point.

You probably thought the same for Williams and Manek too. But yet, both exceeded what anyone thought of them after they left OU. I'll give Harkless the benefit of the doubt.

No one -- not one person that I've seen -- thinks he's an offensive star. But he does have a knack for hitting big shots at key times. And his defense, along with his grit and passion, made him a valued member of the team (by many, though clearly not everyone on this board). But no one thinks he is a stellar offensive player, but then on a well-constructed team he wouldn't have to be.

Bingo. And I believe he would've been a solid offensive player if he didn't have the pressure of having to be an excellent offensive player.

Not remotely true (regarding my thoughts on those two guys) and an awful comparison. Williams is one of the best athletes in college basketball and I never remotely questioned his talent. The question with him was whether he would be able to put it together and handle his responsibilities on and off the court. And Manek was a far more accomplished player than Harkless. I got frustrated with him at times when he seemed to pout or lose confidence when things didn't go well, but always saw that he possessed a valuable skill as a 4-man who can shoot. The issue with Harkless isn't focus or attitude. It's lack of offensive skill/talent. The odds of a guy vastly improving in those areas after four seasons are long, to say the least.

The very post that I was responding to expressly stated that surrounded by the right players, he could be the centerpiece of an awesome offense.

I think Harkless is athletic and skilled and after last year, regardless of how you feel. I think he could surprise just like Williams and Manek did. Take care.

That's where the arrogance comes in... acting like going to UNLV is low class or something.

They have a better program win % than OU... a better history in the NCAA Tournament than OU... They have a national championship in their 53 year history and OU doesn't have one in 115 years... They play in a great facility.

lets see OU has more NCAA trips more final 4's more conf titles .. more elite 8's more sweet 16's

and o yeah UNLV has played in the second weekend of the tourney 1 time (2007) in the past 30 years and hasn't been to the tourney in a decade ..

You never fail to miss an opportunity to throw shade at OU while pimping EVERYONE else.

UNLV had a great run under the chewing towel guy for about 5-7 years. Yes, they have 1 national title and they’re a good program. However, they are not better than OU and they’ve done nothing for 25 years. They miss the tourney far more than we do.

Happy for EJ. Hope he does well.

What are his offensive skills? Passing? Dribbling? Shooting? Are there other offensive skills I'm not aware of, because he ranges from below average to terrible at all three of those. Athletic -- meh. I recall multiple breakaways during his two seasons where he barely dunked. He isn't a bad athlete but I would consider him average at best for a major college wing.

Crap, I guess San Francisco is also a better program than OU. I guess kids in the portal should be flocking to the Bay Area.

And 65 more years of basketball for OU.

Some of the folks on here need to have more perspective. Homerism is annoying.

Unlv is low class compared to OU and the Big 12 tho..
