Fears & the NBA Draft Projections

This kid is really special, seeing him play with the confidence he has right now. Kyrie Jr.

I think his real height might hurt him bc I've heard rumors he's not as tall as listed. But regardless he's young and therefore has too much potential that nba scouts and gms drool over, to be passed up

that will be interesting because historically OU has always been pretty good with roster heights .. ..

if that is the case he would be 6'4 in shoes .. (or at least close to that)

The NBA folks are convinced he is shorter than his listed height.

As for the Kyrie comparison -- many NBA people consider him as maybe the most gifted PG in history. I'd hesitate throwing that comparison around, and I don't mean that as a slight to Fears.

Darius Garland is my comp

Yep, Kyrie's handles are elite, and Jeremiah can't even sniff Kyrie's 3PT FG %, even in his limited college sample size. Those are two areas he would have to progress to get at an all-star NBA level- handling in traffic and outside shooting. Unfair comparison for anyone let alone a kid that's just 18.

Out of college, Fears is probably a better comparison to Fultz, Maxey, Fox, maybe even going back to a John Wall or Derick Rose. I've even seen comparisons to Westbrook because of his ease in getting to the rim. But Westbrook was much stronger out of college. Westbrook exploded to the basket, and Fears gets there quick but much smoother.

I don't think his height is that far off or that big of a deal for scouts. His strength is a bigger issue as he still tends to bounce or shy away from contact near the basket. But he has enough moxie to get to the rim and mix it up, and rebounds pretty well for his size. He will develop, and you know NBA scouts are salivating with what he has at his age.

Kid has an incredible future. Glad we've been able to enjoy it... and hopefully can for at least another week or two.

I think the height will matter, only because I’ve seen it mention by anonymous scouts in a couple draft previews. They seem to think he is not just a fraction of an inch shorter than his listing.

I’m not sure who the best comp is. I’d shy away from Westbrook or Rose, though, because they may be the two best athletes to ever play the position (obviously before the knee injury for Rose). Fears is a good athlete, but not on their level. Those guys could dunk on/over guys in a way you just don’t see from PGs.

agree on the Westbrook athleticism. Agree that NBA Rose had more before the knee and injuries.

But talking more about their game and production. D-Rose stats at Memphis compared to Fears almost identical. Size close. Not talking about his NBA MVP years comparison. I also mentioned Wall and Tyrese Maxey, both the same size, similar game, and close in stats. Maxey maybe a better comparison as he shot better from the line.

And obviously all those guys made HUGE jumps after a year or two in the NBA. Not saying Fears can do the same but he has the chance because his ceiling is so high.

Yeah he reminds me of Kevin Johnson. Could fly and was sneaky athletic.
