Because our football team is an abortion.

I'm glad that Lon has the basketball team headed in the right direction. It gives us all something to look forward to over the next several months.

Unfortunately it may be the most positive result... to bring change.

But that's probably wishful thinking.

Hopefully this gets the ****heads in Norman who refuse to go to basketball games to show up.

You're being kind. I can think of a number of ways to describe the team I'm watching now, just none I can repeat on this forum.

Look at the bright side, though. An embarrassing loss to Clemson could be the last straw for enough big money donors that they will demand wholesale changes in OU's coaching staff. I don't include "Big Game Bob," because he's not going anywhere. But if OU goes into next season with Josh and Mike in charge of our offense and defense, forget a shot at a national championship, we won't even be in the running for a Big 12 title.

All I can say is, I'm glad the football season is over so we can focus all of our attention on basketball!

I couldnt agree more.

I think we may be a men basketball school...not the ladies

You're exactly right Ada. Bob isn't going anywhere, but if we trot out the same coordinators as this season (and the same QB) for next year, then we are toast.....forget the Big 12, I'm not sure we would be any better than .500.

And yes the best thing about football is that the season is 9 minutes from being over....and all of our focus can be on the hardwood.

Not until we win a game in March again. We really are a softball school.

OK, since this is already a football thread, what coaches do you think will be replaced? Here's my guess.

Return:
Montgomery
Bedenbaugh
Gundy
M Stoops - should be gone, but Bob won't do it
Schmidt

Gone:
Kish
Wright
Boulware

Maybe:
Heupel - might be retained as QB coach but need an experienced OC so in effect he should be demoted as a minimum
Norvell - might leave on his own. That's my guess.

What's your guess? I figure this board can be more objective than the other football boards. They're on fire now.

Tough situation for me, I feel like Heupel should go but it's glaringly obvious that we have a below average QB and no Offensive coordinator looks good in that situation. Mike Stoops defense has been really good vs the run or the pass every year he has been back but he hasn't fielded a defense that has been good against both and the bad side has been historically bad. Position coaches are really hard to evaluate fairly, so I will not comment on them, other than to say that I am sure I feel about the same as everyone else about the various position coaches. As for the head man, I have always supported Bob, but I have officially shifted in to neutral, if the powers that be decided to remove him, I would support it. If they decide to retain him, I will support it.

I like most of your picks...though Heupel should be in the GONE category. I remember how happy I was when Mike Stoops returned to the program. I'm undecided as to whether he doesn't know how to stop the spread offense or whether the talent level on defense is as thin as it has been in my 40+ years as a fan (and I haven't forgotten the Blake era).

I pretty much agree with the list you've provided. I am probably in the minority, but I go back and forth on Heupel because:
a) they have no QB
b) the receivers (besides a healthy Shepard) cannot consistently get seperation
c) the O-line was a bit overrated and inconsistent.
Thus, if your QB is lousy, your receivers can't get open, and your O-line only blocks some of the time, then it doesn't matter what the scheme is or what plays that you call....you are pretty much doomed against good teams.

OTOH, I didn't like the Mike Stoops hire because his defenses were awful at Arizona and he hasn't shown he can stop a competent offense thus far. And how in the world do you fire your brother (if things aren't going well)? I just don't think he has made adjustments to the current offensive philosophies and we are going to be no better than average with him at the defensive helm....he needs to be gone.

One of the other primary factors for improvement is that we have to either recruit better players or evaluate talent more proficiently (likely both). Our last great defensive lineman was Gerald McCoy and that was 5 years ago.
