Ferguson

You just named 2 guys that most likely won't even see the floor next year. The post rotation is going to be Lattin, Buford, McNease and Manyang.

I'd bet you just about anything those don't end up being the top 4 guys by year end.

Especially since Lattin and Buford are likely to start, and they are also the only two of those four that can play the 4 spot, though I don't want Lattin playing the four unless he has vastly improved.

I think Freeman will play.

With a few minutes here and there for one of those 2 freshmen. Kruger doesn't go deep with his post rotation. He's only playing 3 post players right now with McNease getting around 4 minutes a game. Buford is going to get Spangler minutes next year.

I assume the 2 guys you referenced are Freeman and Doolittle. Doolittle may redshirt. But, no way Matt Freeman will not see the floor next year. No one on our roster has his unique size and skill set.

Mark it down. He'll be in the rotation next season.

Yep. He may already be the best scorer/shooter of the bunch. Gonna need that skill set to space the floor.

If we don't get Bolden, I hope we go with Buford/Freeman at the 4, and Lattin and one of Manyang/McNeace at the 5.

I think Buford is a good shooter, especially at thee 4 position. I really like his shooting motion and how compact and smooth it is.

I'm high on him and James going forward and think both will end up All Big 12.

I highly doubt it. Every year we talk about these freshmen coming in and getting significant minutes. McNease and Buford were talked about this year and there was a huge stretch when Buford didn't see the floor and Buford was going to play the 3 b/c he could shoot the ball. And Fran was building up McNease saying he was going to come in and contribute and he just now started seeing about 4 minutes a game. And Manyang was supposed to come in and start right away and he doesn't even see the floor.

If Lattin gets minutes at the 4..which is likely with Manyang and McNease on the roster...Freeman isn't going to get very many minutes next year.

I agree. Buford has a lot of potential.

What are the chances Buford slides to the 3 with Freeman at the 4 and Lattin at 5 (if we don't get Bolden)?

I think McNeace is going to make a big jump next year. He's not going to be Stacey King but he's gotten a lot better in the limited minutes he's played over the last month. He has a lot of things you can't coach, IMO.

Slim. With McGusty, Grandstaff, James and Odomes not much need for him there. And better chance Doolittle plays the 3 over Buford.

Aren't James and Odomes 2 guards?

Seems like Doolittle may redshirt or is he that good?

Buford would be a nightmare matchup for most 3 guards but he might struggle on defense guarding a 3.

I thought you said Doolittle would not even see the floor next year. Now you're saying he may play the three over Buford? One of us is confused.

There is little/no difference in a 2 guard and the "3" spot in college hoops.

Both James and Odomes are 2/3's IMO. I actually see both playing more at the 3, with Grandstaff/McGusty getting the minutes at the 2.

I don't think Buford is ready to play the 3 yet. Maybe, down the road, though I think his best position will be the 4 in the mold of an Osby or Spangler.

I don't disagree with anything you say except I'm hesitant with him at the 4 because he seems too soft and doesn't rebound very good. I'm sure those will improve though.

I didn't say he would play. I said better chance that Doolittle would play the 3 over Buford.

This is what I see happening. I see Buford developing into a more athletic hybrid of Clark/Osby and Freeman as a more skilled version of Spangler. Nice combo, I believe.

I agree with your general point. However, I do see Odomes as more of a true 3 and James as a 2. Very different bodies.

I still would like to see OU go after Ferguson and bring in a top 15 player at the wing spot.

I didn't say he would play. I said better chance that Doolittle would play the 3 over Buford.

If Doolittle doesn't play, there is zero chance he would play the three over anyone. ;)

Since our roster will have an abundance of guards and wings next year, I agree that it's highly unlikely he will play. I see a redshirt in his future. That's not a bad thing. He has a huge upside, so a year to develop his game may be the difference in spending most of one season on the bench, the way Odomes did this year, to being ready to contribute as a redshirt freshman.

As for Dante Buford, if he continues to work on his game in the off season, I think he could be a factor at the three next season. While 11 of 29 is a limited sample of his ability to knock down threes, 38% is still a respectable percentage. His defense was suspect early on, but he's much better on defense now. Can he defend a top notch three? The jury is still out on that one. But, if he can, I think he could become a three-four hybrid, much like Romero and Cam. That was the plan for him when signed with OU.

The most inexperience we will have is on the wings. None of the wings on our team have proven anything yet and we don't know what Grandstaff and McGusty will do next year. I just don't think b/c of this that he will redshirt. I don't think any player redshirts next year. I think we are going to have so much inconsistency on the wings that everyone will get a shot playing next year. I think Doolittle has a better shot at getting minutes than Freeman b/c I think Doolittle is more of a 3 than a 4. But I think the minutes will be no more than 4 minutes a game with a bunch of games where he doesn't see the floor.
