So let’s assume the talk about Ott is true. That is concerning for a couple reasons. One, it should be up to our GM and head coach to be able to determine in the evaluation process whether a player will do the stuff he needs to do to get on the field. From the moment he committed, the talk was that he was a really bad pass blocker. I’d assume as part of the process, you’d be able to figure out whether that was due to effort, technique, attitude, etc.
The other thing … we now have had two years in a row where fans and media members are essentially suggesting that some of our most talented skill guys just aren’t tough enough to fight through the kinds of injuries that are common in football. At one point do you see a trend and wonder if maybe it’s a big enough trend to question the “culture” that Brent talks about? I mean, so many of the anti-Riley people constantly point to how the team was soft under him. Are our offensive skill guys soft the past couple years?
