Football question

3 YPC is about the equivalent of a basketball team making 50 percent of its FTs. I don’t think some of you realize what is considered a good YPC number in college football.
We're not going to be a running team ever under arbuckle imo

You might be right but that would be a difficult way to live in the SEC. I agree with people who say we don’t have to be a great running team. But right now we are one of the worst in the country, and that’s a recipe for disaster.

What are you talking about?
OU vs michigan .. the # 7 run defense in the country .

OU 138 yards rushing almost double what they allow

Man this is just a case of making the data fit your narrative.
Nobody would watch that game and say we ran the ball very very well.
At best it was adequate.

How? Did we run for less vs Michigan?

Jeez
Championship teams don't have to rely on their QB for their running game.
It should be a weapon, not a crutch. If we don't have a RB run threat, teams will stop Mateer.

If we don't get the running game going (with our RBs), we won't make the playoff.

I don't understand why you guys think we performed well against UM and Auburn. It was not good. Even if you include Mateers yards.

Total yards is not all that matters, attempts do as well.

Thats a wild take. Josh, lamar, baker, trevor, Jalen, Jayden, fields, dart, mahomies... would all like a word.

Running qb's are a thing... you watch football?

He said you shouldn’t have to rely primarily on the QB for your run game.

lol, we're damn close to being a playoff team as things currently sit.

Meaning, 2 losses and we're definitely in, 3 with one of those being with Mateer out and we're probably in.

Beat texas, what 3 games are we losing with the Mateer-lead offense?

I'll never understand those that think you can only win a game doing things one way. Yes, having a good running game makes things easier. No, you don't have to excel at running the football to be a damn good team. Certainly not a team good enough to make the Playoffs.

The running game isn't going to be great this year. It takes time to figure that out in an Air Raid offense, and that is what we're running. It will get better, but that improvement is going to be over the next 12-18 months. We're running a scheme that is hard to run out of. Our OL is still not where it needs to be (injuries and lack of development). Our running backs are okay, but certainly not elite.

I'll take a healthy Mateer, a healthy Lewis/Gibson at WR, and an OL that starts getting healthy, and I'll take my chances this year.

I never said QBs shouldn't run. I love running QBs.
But our running game hasn't been good. It has actually been awful this year and that is a problem

OK, so you agree with me thanks.

I don't agree that our running game has to be better this year for us to make the Playoffs. No.
Well I guarantee you if our running game isn't better than it has been we won't make the playoffs.
We literally could not impose our will on kent state, temple, or illinois state.
If we were sub 3 ypc against UM and auburn but dominated the crappy teams on our schedule, I would agree with you.
But we didn't. Of the 5 teams Kent State has played, we had the worst YPC against them. That should concern everyone
