Football question

I don't get why this is such a surprise to some. Not directing that at you, but I've seen people say no way he should play.

From all accounts he was not concussed and didn't break anything. If that is true, and he's simply "not too sore to play", why wouldn't he?
Optics, for one. He was wheeled off the field..

But luckily he wasn't hurt at all. Just sore/bruised. He's like 100%

Not being able to run the ball hurts in the red zone. Need tds

This is very true.
That quarter was a huge missed opportunity. Texas couldn’t move the ball, we settled for a FG on our one good drive, blew an opportunity with great field position, lost the turnover battle, and somehow our running game was even worse than its 106 ranking

Still winning the run game tho! We just have to be better than texas.

Two timeouts on the same offensive possession. That’s the type of game management stuff from Brent that drives me insane and costs you in close games. No reason this should be a one-score game.

LOL.

Wow, just had all around. Bad time management. Bad play calling. Bad throw.

Still think it’s funny?
That was absolutely terrible game management to end the half. Unforgivable.

However the post I quoted, you were just bitching for no reason. We didn’t need an extra timeout there to score a FG. We had plenty of time to run another play and get the first down or kick the FG.

Got the ball back with over four minutes left, had absolutely no urgency, seemed disinterested in even trying to score a TD, then finally use our last timeout and chuck the ball into the end zone. Year four of this crap from Brent. If you asked a team to script the worst possible game management scenario for a drive, I don’t think they could come up with anything worse than what Brent just did.

I agree 100%. Kicker has been nails. Use him.

Now, all Texas needs is at td. I don’t think OU scores again this half.

You don’t think it would have been helpful to have two more timeouts that would have completely changed the scenario and allowed us a real opportunity to score a TD? The only reason we were in the position of having to decide between settling for a FG and throwing a desperation heave is because we couldn’t stop the clock after any of the previous plays where we were tackled inbounds. Hell, even if we had only used one timeout on the earlier drive, we would have been in much better position to not have to settle for 3.

We had 25 seconds left. Instead of letting the clock run down and taking a timeout, we should’ve run a play. If we get the first down the clock stops or we can spike it. We didn’t t have to run the clock to 10 seconds and then take a timeout, only to throw a hail Mary int. We could’ve easily scored 3 points without any more timeouts.

So far, this offense hasn’t come close to scoring a TD or making anyone believe they can score a TD. Kick the FG and go up 6.

Remember all the talk about how great and dynamic Gibson is? We have thrown him one pass in two games and his biggest impact was throwing a short pass on a gadget play. At this point, it’s hard to even view our offense as much better than last season. And even though we got two decent runs late in the half, it still seems like we are just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping for the best. Rotated three backs in the first half.

But again, WHY did we only have 25 seconds? We had treated the entire drive as if we had our full allotment of timeouts. We were allowing the play clock to run down to the final 15 or so seconds on most plays. Why? You know you only have one timeout. You had picked up multiple first downs on the drive. If our offense is so bad that the staff actually feels like scoring a touchdown isn’t even possible, then what the hell is going on with this team that spent big money on a QB, RB, and OC? Jackson Arnold and a bunch of anonymous receivers could probably manage a couple FGs. And we already saw what the risk is when you settle for FGs. We missed one tackle and Texas broke a huge run. It’s not fair to expect your defense to be perfect. You have to be able to put the ball in the end zone occasionally.

This next drive for OU is huge. Three and out and that may be ballgame

It doesn’t matter how much time we have. This offense couldn’t score a TD if we had unlimited time.
