Football question

That's a good question/subject -- I'm not sure how many points we need to win this one. Ole Miss is such a step up offensively from anyone we have seen. And now their QB has a road SEC test under his belt, and he was fantastic for three quarters Saturday. Our D against their offense is a really good battle. I suspect it will come down to whether our DBs can hold up.
I think we hold them to 24 points. But i wouldn't be surprised if we get torched a bit and need to score in the 30s to win

we're going to find out how good our defense really is this week
We already know how good they are. They are top 10.
This will be a really good test. If they can still look dominant and hold ole miss to under 20 points, I would be ready to cement them as elite

This will be the true litmus test for the D. Ole Miss can really sling it.

the defense is currently top 10....but we haven't really played a good offense yet.
so that ranking tells an incomplete story
stay tuned....we face much better offenses down the stretch

I agree. I am confident that our defense is good. Maybe even really good. But it's hard to just assume great or elite status before you play a good offense, let alone a great one. That's not our fault -- just so happens that our first three conference games were against the three worst SEC offenses we are likely to face all season (I know LSU is also struggling offensively but think they are probably still going to end up better than any of the three we have played so far).

On the flip side though, we've also played against 4 of the top 17 SP+ defenses in the country (Texas, Michigan, Auburn, SCar). Ole Miss is certainly a step down from that, so while it is fair to have criticism of our offense, they've also been going against stiffer competition and started to show some signs of life against a good defense this past weekend. We still have a long ways to go but with Mateer getting healthier by the week and finally seeing signs of life from the RB room, things could be looking up in that regard.

i will be surprised if Ole Miss scores above 24 .. and my guess is that OU keeps them under 20
I think our defense matches up well and if we can pressure their QB, we can force mistakes. We just can’t lose contain and let him run for big plays. The biggest concern on defense is coverage down field if he has time to throw. They will make some plays but we just have to limit that damage. It would help if we could keep improving the run game on offense and keep the Kiffin offense off the field. We need to win TOP and field position.

Agree. Will be interesting.

Our opponents scoring avg vs what we held them to....

Michigan 28.7 ppg (13)
Temple 33 ppg (3)
Auburn 23.6 ppg (17)
Kent State 17.9 (0)
Texas 26.7 ppg (16)
USC 20.1 ppg (7)

Kentucky scored 23 and Arkansas scored 35 against this ole miss defense. This is not a good defense and we need to take advantage of that.

I agree, this should be a game where we can put some points up. If our offense doesn't play well in this game (at home, playing a less-than-stellar defense, with our offense as healthy as you can hope for this time of the season), it will be a bad sign. Can our line put together two straight good games against P4 competition? That's the biggest thing I want to see.

I think the defense will probably give OU’s offense some chances early. I could see Ole Miss going 3 and out their first three or four drives. The defense will be absolutely amped for this game. The offense has to capitalize. OU will not hold them scoreless all game though.

There’s been plenty of bad signs from the offense up to this point in the season. I would not be shocked if OU’s offense struggles. But I also won’t be shocked if OU’s offense moves the ball well.
