Football question

This is definitely a scary game
It's going to be a very tough game, especially with how bad our offense is. We've won the last two games because of TOs, field position and a star kicker. Statistically, Mizzou is every bit as good as Texas is on defense. They may not have quite the NFL talent, but as a unit, they are equals. Without TOs, I don't see much of a path of how we score much on Saturday. I hope I'm wrong and the offense can find something, but at this point, it's likely "you are who you are" (Bill Parcells).

Again, it truly is amazing that you manage to miss the point of almost every post.

Also, even though my post had nothing to do with whether we should be worried about Hardy, it's amusing that you refer to stats and then use the phrase "flawed" post. Stats are objective facts. Every stat I cited in my post is accurate. You can downplay them all you want, but if we had a guy putting up his numbers at RB, people would throw a parade.

Yes, the numbers were technically real numbers, but horrifically misapplied to the point of being useless for the statement you were trying to support. Hence why I noted the clear flaws.

You claimed he always plays and always dominates. I then cited that he has only played three top 25 run defenses all year, and he did not cross 100 yards or 5 YPC in a single one of them.

You throw around the word "dominates" way too liberally. At least when it comes to non-OU players.

Hell, people were gushing about Blaylock when he got off to a decent start against bad competition, talking about how he has "it" and looked like a guy we could rely on for years.

Lolz...you were the person saying that.

Mizzou has a good defense, but not as good as Texas'. Furthermore, Texas has one of the top 2-3 run defenses in the country and were playing against a QB who was rushed back from surgery with minimal practice reps.

Mizzou's defense ranks slightly above Ole Miss. We've played 4 defenses ranked above Mizzou (UT, Alabama, Auburn, UM), so it's middle of the road for our schedule.

I don't think we'll score much, but also don't think we'll need to. Much like how we won 3 of the 4 games listed above against better defenses.

Apparently, blaylock needs shoulder surgery but is going to play through it until the end of the season. Robinson took some nasty hits around the knees but he’s just banged up and should play. Not certain how banged up he is or how well he can play through it. I don’t know if Tatum will see the field or what’s going on with him. Ott? Who knows. We might end up playing sawchuk’s little brother. Good times.
I literally said Blaylock was going to have surgery after the season just the other day.

last year's offense was a disaster....this year might be worse.

It is unequivocally better this year.

idk. last year against bama....the offense had 4 drives over 50 yds.....longest was 67.
this year......longest drive was 41....next longest 31.
i think we only crossed midfield twice when we started on our own end of the field.

I think you will be in the overwhelmingly minority with that stance. Who was the equivalent of Sategna last year? While we would like to see more from Burks and Gibson, who was the equivalent of them last season (post-Burks injury)? While Mateer has been up and down, let's remember that the QB last year is about to transfer to his third school for next season since he can't hold down a starting job. The offensive line? Neither year is anything to brag about, but this year's unit does appear to be improving.

you mean which receiver has 3 td receptions in 6 conference games?
because that's all mateer has thrown. 3. none in the last 2 games.

It's not worse, but given what we were sold with the Arbuckle & Mateer package, it really is just as bad. Total offense is basically the same. The main difference is the turnover regression on offense and defense compared to last year. If the defense doesn't score two TDs on their own the past two weeks, we're 6-4 and BV is coaching for his job. I do think they need to bring in competition for Mateer in the portal this offseason. There are plays to be had each week, and he's just missing them - which shouldn't happen in year 3 of this offense.

mateer has been awful. if we lose one or both of the final 2 games....it will be because bv made yet another terrible offensive coordinator hiring decision.
his 3rd.

2024 vs 2025
Scoring: 24 vs 28
Total Offense per game: 331 vs 358
Rushing YPG: 155 vs 131
Rushing YPA: 3.87 vs 3.82
Passing YPG: 175 vs 227
Passer rating: 125 vs 129
Turnovers per game: 1.8 vs 1.1

Numbers don't show much of an improvement but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks the offense was better last year

Not sure if the West side renovations were brought up - but $450M estimated cost. There's no reason they can't have an on-campus arena if they can find that money, they're just choosing not to do it.

Baylor's new arena and Texas' new arena both cost under $300M.

those numbers could get even worse over the next 2 games if gabe sawchuck is our only healthy rb willing to play.

Will reduce capacity by 7k.
Catering to the suites...not surprisingly.
I do like the look though

Couldn’t agree more.
Mateer hasn’t been good, at all. I’m willing to give Ben a bit more time for a couple reasons. One, the overall lack of offensive talent. Two, he wasn’t the guy who took a massive swing on Ott. And I guess another thing is, we still have two or three position coaches who simply shouldn’t be here. When the staff hasn’t developed a tight end or RB for three years, it’s hard for an OC to come right in and get things rolling from day one.

I agree he hasn’t done a good job this year, though. You still should be able to scheme up a handful of plays per game that get easy yards. And Mateer’s play falls in part on the guy who has coached him for three years.

If I am not mistaken, didn’t city of Austin pay 300!million and private donor covered the rest of the UT stadium? I think that was what led to trying to get Norman involved.
