Football question

Probably not but we’d be a real contender for the title. As it is, we’ll be fortunate to win a playoff game.
The Mateer debate will be settled during the playoff game. If all he needs is a “mental reset” and to heal up he now gets it. Three weeks to get right. If he plays much better in three weeks then we’ll know his struggles were fixable. But, if the same problems persists in three weeks then we can be confident he’s just not good enough for SEC level football.

I expect a solid performance and a W. If we get neither, I'll admit I was wrong.

This is assuming X is healthy. And noting there a lot of things we can do in the offseason to help him out.

Offense wasn't that problem against Ole Miss, now Texas was another mateer- pun intended

I agree that the offense was good enough to win. It was the worst defensive performance and one of the better on offense, which culminates in being equally on the offense and defense.

But the offense being good enough was mostly X. Based on QBR, Ole Miss was Mateer's second worst performance. The opportunity was there in the 4th to still win it if he'd been on target.

As bad as Mateer was was yesterday, a strong final 16 minutes pushed his QBR above 50, which ended up being just enough. We remain undefeated when our QB1 puts up a QBR >50.

I hope for a solid performance and a W. Everything else is in place for a natty.

I don't see a path to beating Ohio State, even if Baker Mayfield found an extra game of eligibility, but I think we would beat anybody else with a QBR 80 type performance from Mateer. I think with 3 weeks to prepare, Mateer will deliver a 70-80 range performance.

We have played a couple offenses that are comparable to Ohio State (Tennessee, Ole Miss), though we had some struggles against them, and had a significant defensive edge to offset it. Not only do we not have that edge, Ohio State likely has a better defense.

Indiana and Tech are also ranked top 5 on both sides of the ball as well, though I'm not sure I quite believe it yet.

What scares you the most about Tosu?

Michigan had their chances to knock them off yesterday

Ohio State won 27-9 and yardage was 419 to 163. I don't feel that game was particularly close.

The only comparable offenses we've played in terms of advanced metrics are Tennessee and Ole Miss. We had struggles vs both. Ohio State is likely better.

The best defenses we played were Alabama, Missouri, Texas, and LSU. We struggled against them all. Ohio State is definitely better.

So basically it's our worst matchups offensively and defensively all rolled into one team.

We'd be fortunate to score 10 on them and we can't matchup with their WRs.

That can be YOUR opinion, but it's not mine.

Three weeks in December before a playoff game isn't the reset he needs. He'll get that reset after the season.

But haters gonna hate, right?

😂😂 that’s hilarious. Just keep pushing the timeline back. I genuinely can’t remember an OU player with as many excuses as Mateer apparently gets by this fan base.

And I guess if you wanna call me a hater that’s fine. Two things can be true at once. I love OU football and also think Mateer isn’t very good.

Remember when it took Blake Griffin a good year to come back from knee surgery and return to form as a freshman? Oh, wait, it took less than two weeks?

Since no beat writer has said anything, I’m still wondering why Keontez Lewis isn’t playing? Wasn’t listed on the availability report all week, has played too many games to quit and redshirt like Barnes and Dolby … what gives?

yeah he's in the trevor knight/jackson arnold class of qb's.
all we needed this season was a good not great qb.....and we ended up with another bust.
he needs to move on next season or take a massive pay cut.
i'd prefer he move on. give next year's defense a qb to be proud of.

When did I push the time line back? Go read my posts in this thread, I've always said it'll be after the season before he's healthy.

Google can be your friend. Or go ask a doctor. Pretty much any thumb surgery the MINIMUM time frame given for full recovery is 3-6 months.

I'll do the math for you, three months from the date of surgery is Christmas Eve. That's the earliest date I've heard or seen from anybody or anywhere.

Generic from the internet:

Weeks 8–12: Most patients achieve full motion, and athletes can begin a gradual return to sports activities. Full strength recovery can take up to 6 months.

He's was at 9 weeks and a couple of days on Saturday.

But sure, he's fully recovered and 100% healthy. <insert eye roll reaction to ignorance and bias>

Just admit you were wrong about BV and stop trying to keep making excuses and pick apart a pretty damn good team. Struggling offense or not.

Yes, and Kobe never returned to form after tearing his achilles.

I don't know why we are discussing different surgeries from different sports with completely different job descriptions, but this is equally irrelevant, so I included it.
