Football question

Sure if you didn’t watch the game and just rely on stats. Anyone who watched last night with any type of critical eye saw Stockton make plays Mateer never makes. Hell, Mateer jumps backwards and throws underhand in a clean pocket. Stockton stood in and made throws with guys right in his face, and managed to throw the ball to guys wearing his own jersey.
This would only be true if Mateer got a bunch of cheap stats at the end with the game already over. OU lost its chance when Satenga fumbled.

But yeah I’ll trust your critical eye over actual data.

To be fair, they prolly were consistent and also defended Trevor knight too.. maybe even jackson arnold
Again everyone on here realizes Mateer wasn’t close to what was advertised & has to get a lot better next year. Before he was even hurt I wasn’t overly impressed & knew he had no shot to make it to the heisman presentation.

But I will defend that Mateer was better than Arnold, not a bottom 1/4 QB in the SEC, & that he was different after he broke his thumb.

Ahhh yes, the eye test of a random fan with no football background who had watched this team play several games and still predicted we'd barely become bowl eligible and that we didn't have elite defense. The eye test of somebody with a football background is useful, but when absolutely no objective metrics support your eye test...time to stop relying on that. Especially when nearly every prediction about OU this year ended up wrong. I'll applaud you for persistence I suppose.

Nobody in here is saying Mateer is getting a statue alongside White, Sam, Baker, or Kyler. I was actually one of the Mateer haters in here when he was the Heisman frontrunner, as I never felt that was warranted. Many on here are just so hyperbolic that it's hard not to correct it.

He's not the worst QB in the country, and it's bizarre I get pushback when I tell Wichita he's wrong. I say he was top 50, which is supported by all metrics.

I've said our offense wasn't even close to the worst in the SEC, which again was supported by all metrics.

I've said that Mateer was affected by breaking his thumb on his throwing hand, which in addition to common sense was also seen on the field. Even if not a superstar, he looked much better in the second game against Alabama after he had healed and he was no longer in a brace. He also looked excellent in the Michigan game prior to the injury.

I've said that QBs his age can continue to improved and then cited 10 different examples of more experience/older QBs than him that made dramatic improvements. Which again, anybody that has watched the NFL knows QBs don't peak at 21 years old.

Lastly, I've said we can compete against CFP teams with Mateer QB...BECAUSE WE HAVE. We literally beat a CFP team and played against a different one in a game that came down to the final possession.

Everything above is an objective fact.

Man today shows again we just have no chance with Mateer. The qb play in this game is off the charts, and the other semi will feature the first two picks of the draft. Stockton and Chambliss are just trading big play for big play, despite getting pressured and taking tons of hits. Chambliss apparently doesn’t believe that it takes time to adjust on a new head coach and conference lol.
I guess I don’t understand why you feel the need to run down everything OU with every post. Oh the sky is blue today! That’s why OU sucks! It’s insufferable. What is the point?

Before the season, you said we’d suck and lose. We played one of the toughest schedules in the country. We played 8-9 top 50 defenses and we made the playoffs at 10-2. Yet, you’re here everyday complaining about how we suck because some other team did something. Why?

This team isn’t perfect but we’ve made a lot of progress. We are continuing to make progress but you’re here everyday complaining every step of the way, hating on all things OU. You are completely absent any joy or cheer. Just a miserable poster every day all the time.

At the risk of being too crude, Wichita could have relations with Sydney Sweeney and then would complain afterward that she has a mole on her ass..

My desire is for OU to win another national championship. I think it’s fair to discuss whether our current quarterback is capable of doing that. And if he isn’t, it’s fair to argue that the program should try to find someone better, regardless of how much money we paid Mateer last year. My view is that Mateer is miles away from being capable of winning four playoff games. He wasn’t capable of winning one this year, despite a huge lead, at home, over a very flawed team. If we had an otherwise great offense, maybe Mateer would be capable of playing the role of game manager well enough to get us over the hump. But we clearly aren’t in that position. We rode great defense and special teams, and a huge turnover margin against Bama in the regular season, to the playoff. As soon as those things dried up in the playoff, we got the result most national analysts expected.

Sorry if discussing the most important position on the field on a football thread bothers you. And sorry if seeing the level of quarterback play in the games yesterday highlighted the importance of upgrading in my mind.

Yeah, I'm a mateer hater too. . I'm just commenting about how you're a negative boner and even i am getting worn out by it

The portal is heating up for OU.
A couple olinemen (one potential starter and one for depth)
A big TE
A productive WR

The WR and TE and the Arky OL seem like they are good gets. I sure hope the G5 RB isn't the only add at that spot. If we go into the season with X, Blaylock, that guy, and the incoming freshman, I expect another season with a rushing game that is near the bottom of the league.

Just picked up Rocky Beers as well.
We have upgraded TE blocking substantially IMO. I still wouldn't expect a lot out of the passing game for the TEs

nothing wrong with x/blaylock/avant and the 2 freshmen at the rb position.
if they can stay healthy that's all we need.
with a better/more experienced o-line...and tight ends who can actually block.....run game should be fine

Based on what? We just had a season of X/Blaylock/Ott/Barnes/Tatum. Tatum and Ott were much more highly touted than Avant and our run game sucked. We had Sawchuk, Barnes, Tatum, and X last year. We had Sawchuk, Barnes, and Walker two years ago. Our run game sucked both those years.

When was the last year our RBs and O-Line stayed healthy? We don't need five guys who are all mediocre. We need a dude. Blaylock had one good game against real competition. X has been off and on due to injury. Blocking TEs will help. sure. They will not make our RBs suddenly capable of making defenders miss in open space.

Yeah, Avant is likely a KR and RB4 for us, so I don't see how we could have done better. Hatton should be able to contribute as a freshman, in addition to returning our top 2 rushers.

Our run game will be improved based on 3 OL true freshman improving and the TE we added that will be a monstrous upgrade over Kanak in run blocking.
