Frank Martin is a douche

He is fiery, but I've not seen anything unlikable about him.

He really bugged me his first year, but now I actually kind of like him. His blunt, honest approach is a nice change of pace and it cracks me up when he responds to questions the way he did at tonight's half-time.

I will say that his stubbornness may be a weakness for him though. Like when he refused to alter his defense for this guy: :bgriff624_jpg_xs:

Or not playing Angel at all last time in Norman.

Love Frank but not as much as I love fattyfatfatfatfatfat4KSU. Makes me more of a KStatriot.

funny, when it's somebody else's coach, it seems to be OK..when Stoops gets "blunt," he's arrogant...huuummmm...I'm not rippin' you, just makin' a comment...

Stoops acts nothing like Martin.

He might call out the team in a halftime interview, for example, but Martin called out an individual player. Low-rent.

I would hate for OU to have a coach like Martin. He might be a good coach, but his demeanor is embarrassing.

I'd certainly discourage my kid (if I had one) from signing with a coach like that.

I see a lot of same things in Martin that I didn't like about Capel, personally.

And I agree, mentioning the kid by name at halftime is pretty lame. Not sure I've ever seen that before. As if that kid was the ONLY KSU player that let Pledger score.

I don't think you'll ever see me say anything like that about Stoops. In fact, it's one of my favorite things about Stoops. I like when the media asks a stupid question he responds with a blunt answer to put them in their place. Other fans may not, but I sure do.

I should note that I am happy though that Stoops rarely ever calls a player out by name. That part can be frowned upon, but I think that players that play for guys like Martin know what he is trying to do there and don't take extra offense to it.

People used to say similar things in defense of Bobby Knight. I'm not saying Martin's nearly as bad as Knight, but he's progressed further down that path than I'd like any coach representing OU to ever travel.

Martin is an original. He strays from the cookie cutter mold of coach speak and stock answers. That quality is easily appreciated.

However, his long term trajectory as a coach may not be as rosy as his start. Early success is a poor teacher. He was an AAU coach that Huggins brought in because he was well connected to some top recruits.

He was never prepared to be a high level coach. He was blessed with top flight players early on and did a good job with them. That is it.

My post was in direct response to calling out his player specifically. Team defense is what let them down in the first half, and the player in question was not the only one that let Pledger get free.

It is the coach's job to put the players on the floor who are best equipped to handle a given situation. If a player is not handling that situation, and you leave him out there, it's the coach's fault. That's my problem with him.

His attitude implies that his preparation and game day coaching are flawless and that his players just aren't executing. That's not the case because Kruger outcoached him something fierce last night.

I didn't see what happened... Did Martin really call out one player? If so, that's pathetic.

And you're right, Stoops would never do that. Not that there was even a slight comparison between the two in any aspect beforehand, anyways...
