Jessi Murcer didn’t shoot much, until she started finding her way to the free throw line. Then the Westmoore sophomore seemingly couldn’t miss, helping the Jaguars put away visiting Deer Creek 56-48.

Murcer finished with 20 points, including an 11-of-12 performance at the free throw line in the second half — most of it in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.

Kaci Richardson and Sydney Chastain hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points each for third-ranked Westmoore. Tenth-ranked Deer Creek got 17 from Sydney Manning.

After falling behind early, Deer Creek’s defense helped it pull closer, cutting the deficit to six points on a few occasions. But Westmoore continually had an answer.

“They kept inching closer,” Westmoore coach Andrea Guziec said. “We’ve had a couple times when we had a lead and teams would make runs and we hadn’t fought back. I was glad to see us fight back tonight. We made a mini-run that gave us a lead.

“Then we made our free throws. It’s great when you have good shooters going to the line.”
