GAME 11 - OKLAHOMA (7-3) vs Kansas City (2-9) 6:00pm CST on SECNETWORK

and it is such a simple thing to fix ... don't schedule the bottom 100 teams in the country .. is a pretty low bar to clear . .
It’s not that simple due to the money aspect. They struggle to get the better teams150-250 in Norman due to cost you have to pay them. Attendance at these games are not covering the expenses so they schedule teams that they will cover expenses. Now it’s somewhat a catch 22, it they schedule better, maybe more come. Last Tuesday attendance was listed at 4k, but someone there told me under 2 probably there.

the fact that season tickets are down to 4k is really really sad ..

I've heard the same. It's one budget for NIL and scheduling teams, there is a balance between scheduling better teams and getting better players. The average person that attends game isn't going to know the difference between a 150-250 team and a 300+ team. They should schedule more home and away's with power 4 schools if the budget allows. That might get more people in the stands, and more recurring customers to increase the floor of the schedule from 300+ to 150-250.

For the people blaming money (of course, that’s the default excuse for everything in the Moser era), do you think our scheduling budget is less than every single team in the country when it comes to home games? Because I can promise you no one has a worse home schedule than we do this year. Every single team we are bringing to Norman is in the 300s. The difference between playing those teams and teams in the 150-200 range is not that much. Certainly not enough to justify what we are doing this year.

And as for season tickets, this isn’t rocket science. When you miss the tournament three straight years, barely make it in year four, and regularly lose home games when the place is close to full and you have a chance to truly build momentum, you’re not going to get a lot of fan support. I know there are other factors at play, but putting a good team on the floor would go a long way toward creating some good will with the fans.

Don’t blame money for porter lack of success. I do think they need to figure out how to increase attendance as top tier players are not going to come here even if overplayed to play in front of some of our crowds. Of course more in attendance revenue per game.

Honest question: With our attendance and playing history last few years, if they brought in a usc or Michigan to OU. Would it sell out? I not sure it would. Maybe Kansas might.

Don’t know about sell out but we’d get a hell of a better crowd than we saw the other night.

I’m less concerned with brining in programs like that than I am bringing in respectable teams to replace the Miss Valley States of the world. I think a true sellout is unlikely in noncon. Even our conference games against KU rarely had every seat filled, despite KU having thousands of fans there. I think we would draw even fewer fans playing a game like that in Nov and Dec.

We brought in four highly rated portal guys this cycle, so I don’t think the lack of attendance is hurting us there.

Our fan support for b-ball sucks and really always has. Yeah, when Billy was in his hay days...we could draw some good crowds, and some of Kelvin's seasons has decent attendance, and Lon's FF team I guess, but for the most part, we simply have pathetic support. I can see it if we were going 10-20 or worse, but a team that wins 20ish games a season, should still garner A LOT more fan support than we currently get. I think the Thunder has only hurt it...especially since they are doing so good, and I get it...it's still football season. But the crowd on hand the other night was a complete embarrassment. There's ZERO excuse for it. As a big college b-ball fan, I hate it. A packed house makes gives the home team a real advantage in this game. And I get it, we have laid an egg a few times when we've had a some decent crowds for big games...but if fans are that fickle, that tells you what you need to know. We shouldn't have to have a effin top 5 team to draw a crowd.

I just don't buy this at all that we are too broke to have even a mediocre schedule

It’s not too broke, but if you do not cover the basic costs from expenses to operate a game to paying the team there money to come play based on attendance more importantly concession sales, then you have to pay that money from somewhere? Want it out of football team? NIL? Or do you as an organization make a decision to lower those costs.

Again I say it’s a catch 22. Would I rather they played better teams, of course. I don’t bring up the discussion to say I agree with what OU is doing with schedule. It’s just not as easy as some say to just schedule better teams. Other factors like money plays a part.
