Getting players with Height

True. But length with add so much more. Getting to rebounds Spangler just couldn't reach. Altering shots. Blocking shots. Getting in passing lanes. Length in basketball can make a world of difference.

Exactly. That's why I called attention to McNeace and Lattin's length.

Even if only one of the two plays meaningful minutes next year, that will make a huge difference in our ability to control the paint and block or change shots.

I would like to take a chance on some 6'11'' + guys every year or two. You never know how those guys are going to develop. Usually in college, because the other teams post players are 6'7'', it can give you a big advantage.

Just go find some juco 7'0'' footer, redshirt him if you need to, see what happens. A juco big guy will usually be more developed than the high school one. You have 12-13 scholarships. I would be signing a 7 footer every year.

If this years OU team had a legit shot blocker, they would be a top 5 team nationally. But, OU is pretty standard issue with 6'7'' post players, no real shot blockers, etc.

James Hale says we are recruiting a 6'10 center from Sunrise Christian for 2014.

your wrong ..

We do have a guy that is 6'8". His nick name is Yo Yo. I know that to be true because I asked Yo Yo this question. I asked, "how tall are you?" He said," I am 6' 8".

Then, trying to be a clever boy, I wait until I see different players standing next to Yo Yo from different angles. And then after several observations, I can make a pretty good estimation of a players actual height.

We don't have a player even close to being as tall as Yo Yo. if you think we have a player that is 6' 8", then you probably believe Woodard is 6' 0".

I like having one big, heavy guy -- even if he's a bit stiff -- for matchups.

Yep.

And as much as LK likes to get out and pressure, length is good for that too. Not only actually applying the pressure, but having the shot blocking on the back side. Kelvin didn't need the shot blocking as much, b/c he coached good defense without pressure, so there the guards didn't get to the back line as often. Just different philosophies.

Osby was listed at 6'8" and measured at 6'7" for the draft (I think). Are other guys on our roster mis-measured by more?

you must think it was magic that osby grew after he left OU ..

he measured 6'8 with shoes on before he got drafted ..

spangler is the same height .. and bennet is taller than osby ..

The only accurate part of what you said is that Bennett is taller than Spangler.

Unless you are the one that did the measuring, you don't know what they measured.

Here you go, ( to the closest inch)Woodard 5' 10" ( almost two inches shorter than Grooms), Cam at 6' 5",(Buford is a legit inch taller) Spangler 6'6", Bennett 6' 7", an of course Yo Yo is 6' 8".

Now, you can argue with whoever you want to about this. But, you are wasting your time with me. I know better.

The listed height is almost always more than the actual measurement. I assume that's because a player is measured with his shoes on for the media guide. I also think coaches like to fudge some to make their team appear to be taller. I have never heard of a player for any school who was actually taller than his listed height. They all do it.

This might be an odd question, but have you ever seen Woodard dunk? Or Hornbeak? I remember something about both these guys being in dunk contests after their senior years of HS. But Woodard had a break away in one of the recent games and chose not to. It seems like I heard early on that Woodard dunked some in practice. That would be very impressive at 5-10. I wonder if YOYO lists vertical jump bests for the players, like Smitty does in the indoor facility in football...

Measured in at 6'7 without shoes and 6'8.5 with shoes! Guess I have grown an inch since Tuesday. Smh!

players play with shoes on .. spangler is just as tall as osby and bennett is taller than both ..

also some guys are listed in the nba as shorter than they are ..

ie durant and KG

Yo Yo was listed in the program at 6' 9". No one will ever understate their height. But, when Yo Yo told me he was 6' 8", I don't know if that was with his shoes on or off. This is what I know to be true based on countless close observations. With everyone having their shoes on, Yo Yo, is taller than Bennett, Bennett is taller than Spangler, Spangler is taller than Cam. The gap looks to be about an inch between them. Mayby a little less between Bennett and Spangler. Cam and Tyler are about the same.

Buddy and Booker are about the same size. Jelon and Cousins are noticeably shorter. Woodard is almost two inches shorter than Grooms. Coach Crutch told me that Buford was an inch taller than Cam. He looked to be at least that when standing next to each other. McNeace will go an eye ball to eye ball legit 6'8" with Yo Yo. Latin will be a legit 6'9".

Yes they can both dunk it. Next time I get a chance I'll ask about the verticals.

I am pretty sure I have seen Hornbeak dunk in a game. Regardless I would be shocked if he can't dunk a basketball. He is pretty tall and a very good athlete.
